My friend and I tried both the Australian and the Japan tasting plates. It was a nice journey~ our waiter of the night was Issac, who was very knowledgeable about steak. Wine selection was also very good.
Wow, just wow! This place is truly something special and a worthy treat for anyone that loves a good steak. Dimly lit with limestone walls, the place transports you back in time with its decor, good old fashioned service and white tablecloth dining. Staff are incredible and the sommelier was outstanding in helping us navigate the wine list! Very popular for lunchtimes which means that by dinner time some of the premium steaks had disappeared, so get in early if you are targeting the top end of steak town. My advice is start with the tasting plate so you can experience the three different levels of steak quality and make your choice for the next time you come back, which cannot be soon enough!
This restaurant is hiding at the lower ground floor behind the escalator at 1 Martin Place also known as the GPO Grand Steakhouse. The environment was top class. Quiet and classy. The historical structure was retained without jeopardizing the modern interior design. Staff was attentive and friendly. Consider ordering the lunch set menu including amuse bouche, 200g prime aged steak fillets in medallion cut with red wine sauce and potatoes of your choice, petite four dessert and free glass of champagne / wine plus coffee / tea. The food quality exceeded expectations. The steak was excellent, super tender and juicy. Very delicious. If you don't like potatoes, the restaurant would attend to a request for an exchange of vegetables instead. Very heartwarming.
Oh my lord, the potato puree or whatever its called with truffle was the bomb!!!! Beats the steak there I swear! A must get for sure. I will go back just for that. It was so fluffy and airy and smooth and buttery.. Omg thinking about it makes me salivate. Steak wise I think I've had better, but was still very delicious!! We asked for bread without olives, but still got olives haha a bit of a waste.. but man what a great meal we had! P.s. if getting oysters, just get a dozen. It was so good.
Amazing place for steak. They have a wide variety of steaks 4 pages worth! including yearling, black angus, grass-fed and grain-fed Wagyu. We tried the Black Angus porterhouse and grain-fed Wagyu sirloin and were not disappointed. Our waiter knew his steaks quite well and took the time to explain each type and cut and even helped suggest a few for us.
Went here a few times during my stay in Sydney. I can vouch that this place is good in terms of quality. The price is very reasonable by the standards of Sydney. Most of my steak was nicely done according to my preferance and the presentation was taken care of every bit to the detail. I am a big fan of the Jack Daniel's nip, Surf & Turf and the Meat Tasting Plate, a must order over almost every visit! The restaurant had a posh ambience and the interior was carefully curated in terms of design. I was often attended by Nick but the whole team was helpful and attentive. This is the plus point to all my visits. Would definitely recommend anyone looking for a good steak house in Sydney!
The best steaks I've ever had in my life. Juicy, perfectly cooked and utterly delicious! The service was great, the atmosphere was just right, not too posh and not too casual either. They also serve a small selection of Belgian beers which was s nice surprise. Make sure to ask for one of their booths.
Wow. Just wow. I struggle to fault anything about Prime. Not only was their service amazing, but the meal was nothing short of spectacular. The entree of steak tartare was delicious, and the following cuts of meat were cooked to perfection. I would definitely recommend this place for a romantic dinner.
While the scallop salad entree and the carrot soup amuse bouche were quite tasty with really well balanced flavors, I found the steak itself to be quite underwhelming. I ordered the Black Angus Porterhouse. The meat itself was very tender, but I felt it was underseasoned. It could also be that I am just not used to their method of not searing the steak to finish. The service was excellent, which helped pull this review from 3 to 4 stars.
Excellent steaks, attentive and friendly staff. Restaurant is much smaller than we imagined and are imagining New York steakhouses. The cozyess was a definite plus. Meat was cooked to perfection. Friend had the sampler plate and all three cuts we're done rare and right. Mine was medium and just the right amount of pink. The only complaint was the potatoes were well presented but bland. Prime serves several grades of Australian beef including Waygu. They have beef flights where you can sample different breeds and grades. Pretty cool. Highly recommended steakhouse in CBD.
