I spent a week in Darwin recently attending a conference at the nearby Darwin Convention Centre.nnI chose to stay at Oaks Darwin Elan Hotel for its proximity to the Convention Centre, room service and in-house restaurant, secure on-site parking, and 24hr reception.nnIf Im being honest, my room was basic but serviceable. A hotel room with tiled floors no carpet is never going to rate more than 3.5 stars. But it had plenty of storage, desk, tv, aircon, fridge, kettle, iron, block out curtains etc. Bathroom was ok and stocked with the usual basic amenities.nnI found a couple of blown light globes, and the room entry card reader needed batteries changed partway during my stay suggesting venue housekeeping & maintenance probably needs a bit more attention.nnI ate at the in-house restaurant multiple times and found the food & service here to be good.nnOnsite parking is secure and at $15/day is reasonable value.nnOverall a pleasant enough stay. Wont ever win 5-star awards but comfortable & serviceable and thats what matters to me. And the view from the room was pretty good too...nnRecommended
Lovely staff. I would have given 5 stars however the hot water was barely warm. There was no where to hang a hanger or anything else in the bathroom and we were evacuated 1.30 am due to a fire alarm and there did not seem to be any communication from staff about when we could go back inside. A guest told us a fireman said we could go back inside and while I was having a coffee in our room an announcement came over stating that it was a false alarm and we could return to our room. We stayed in room 2102.
I’m sick of the fire alarm going off every time I stay here. Why. Nice hotel but the alarm going off at 1/3am ruins it. I’m so so so tired and struggle with sleep, it’s incredibly difficult to get back to sleep. I know it’s normal for apartment complexes to do this every now and then, but several times a week is insane. They also do this ridiculously delayed disruptive loud PA announcement 10 min after the alarm stops which just undoes any calm you managed to restore, it ends up taking hours to settle back down. This level of poor management of fire alarms must be illegal in some way. It feels like torture.nnYou know what??? While I’m waiting for the fire alarm to stop, every time I come here the air conditioning remote doesn’t work and I need to call reception to come up and fix. Maintenance guy always smells terrible and stinks up the room.nnThe water pressure is bad in the showers, seldom water isn’t hot enough??? How is that even possible in northern Australia I don’t know! Bathrooms smell strongly of bleach.nnDoors have no noise cancellation, you can hear everyone’s conversation clearly which makes you think about the lack of privacy in your own room.nnOtherwise it’s pretty great but how can you enjoy your stay if you can’t sleep. “Oaks elan, stay here if you’re an insomniac, and if you’re not one, don’t worry! you’ll become one!”
This is my go to place to stay in Darwin. Been here many of times and this time extended my stay for the weekend.... usually here for work. So upgraded to a single room with the balcony. Definitely worth it. U get a much better view than what u would at the Vibe on the harbour and better price. I would say 5 star for Darwin expectations
Absolutely unacceptable experience at Oaks Elan Darwin.nnI stayed for 3 nights and was honestly shocked by the condition of the room. There were cockroaches in the room, visible mould in the bathroom, thick dust build-up throughout the apartment, filthy air-conditioning filters, and even hygiene issues around fixtures and surfaces. The room also had a strong unpleasant smell the entire stay.nnThe level of cleanliness was nowhere near what you would expect from a hotel charging these prices. I specifically request dust/mould-conscious rooms when travelling due to allergies, so this was especially concerning.nnThe worst part was discovering cockroaches had gotten into my luggage after returning home.nnI documented everything with photographs and attempted multiple times to resolve the matter directly with both the hotel and corporate customer service. Weeks later, I still received no response whatsoever. The complete lack of accountability and customer service has been just as disappointing as the room condition itself.nnThis was not a minor cleanliness oversight — the room showed clear signs of ongoing poor maintenance and inadequate cleaning standards.nnWould never stay here again and would strongly caution others before booking.
