SOLID FRENCH CUISINE IN A CONTEMPORARY ENVIRONMENT Two of us went for an early dinner (6 pm start) on a Thursday night. Scored a nice table right in the front window. Staff were quiet attentive and suggested the sampler menu which we gladly accepted to make the selection easier! This is a six course shared plate menu that was quite enough for two. Lamb, ravioli, marron (tricky to eat with just a small fork) , rabbit gnocchi, and a spiced persimmon souffle to round it off - delicious! Complimentary hot bread rolls and a delicious rosemary aioli and creamy butter. We had a lovely red wine and sparkling water. Although the restaurant was full, the service wasn't slow. One thing that was a bit off putting was the noise level as more diners arrived.... there is no sound baffling so it got quite uncomfortable talking towards the end. We dined downstairs but there is also an upstairs dining area.People with mobility issues will be fine on the ground floor as the first part is all one one level before stepping up towards the rear of the ground floor. The restaurant is on busy Swan St so parking is not that easy.. but it is just 5 minutes walk down the street from Richmond station and trams trundle up and down the street frequently

Two of us arrived at 6.15pm and were seated in the window of the then empty restaurent. We decided to share a tasting menu and a glass or two each of what turned out to be a very good French Malbec, and some sparkling water. While we waited for our first dish we were served some tiny but delicious bread rolls with pats of French butter, and rosemary and garlic olive oil for dipping. And then the raw lamb dish arrived and our tastebuds were completely blown away. Easily the dish of the night. It was superb. An undertone of lemon zest and top note of dill in the creamy sauce, and what I thought might have been anchovy, with explosions of sweet lamb and clean crunchy cucumber. Wow! This was followed by a perfectly cooked and delectable ravioli of pine mushrooms and chestnuts. Then a marron beautifully cooked and presented, flavoured delightfully, but so fiddly and hard to eat. We wanted about twice as many tiny marron morsels to compensate for the extraction effort. The savoury elements of the menu concluded with a generous serve of rabbit gnocchi with tiny cubes of roasted vegetables in a rich and subtle cream sauce. I really liked this dish, but my companion found the sauce a bit rich. The final dish was a persimmon soufflé with muscat icecream. Once again too rich for my friend but I found the soufflé to be incredibly light and melt in the mouth, with the faintest of citric undernotes that must have been the persimmon. Neither of us is an ice cream fan, so aside from a spoonful to taste we left it untouched, but we both agreed it was a very nice icecream with a lovely and distinct muscat flavour. Our servers were understated and not intrusive, or showy, but were there with offers of more bread, wine, and water when needed. I liked their level of care. All told there was really only one down side, and that was the awful acoustics. We were there for just on two hours, and during that time the resraurent gradually filled up. At about half full we became unable to hear each other across the table without leaning in, and by the time we asked for the bill we could not hear each other at all. There was actually quite a din. It felt like we had escaped when we got back out into Swan Street. But even with that quite major noise defect, our meal was beautiful and I would go back again just for that raw lamb dish.

Quality food. Good service, although s bit too snappy ( taking plates away too soon ). I felt a bit rushed. And could do without upbeat back music. But we are more mature diners. I would recommend . Susan.

Beautifully presented dishes with quality ingredients. The fixed price New Years Eve menu was delicious and well priced. Excellent and friendly service that was so seamless it was often unnoticed. The only small issue is that the venue seems to only have one split system airconditioner and it was quite stuffy at the front of the restaurant unless the front door was ajar. Even so I would still highly recommend this restaurant.
