Story

Located on the banks of the Murray River, in the bustling riverport of Echuca, Murray River Paddlesteamers proudly operate 3 beautifully restored paddlesteamers.

With a combined age of over 230 years our fleet, the PS Canberra, Pride of the Murray and PS Emmylou, have a proud history working along the rivers. These days, with each of the boats offering a unique tourism experience the future is as exciting as the past, and our crew can't wait to show you what it's all about!

With a huge range of experiences on offer, and operating every day of the year except Christmas Day, there is something for everyone at Murray River Paddlesteamers.

Throughout the year we offer daily short cruises, and morning & afternoon tea cruises, or if you're looking for something more, Wharf-To-Winery, lunch and dinner cruises.

During the warmer months (September - May) PS Emmylou departs on relaxing 1 and 2 night heritage cruises - there's no better way to soak up the atmosphere of river life! PS Emmylou also offers dockside accommodation, year round, with our 'Boatel' package - if you would like a night, or more, in Echuca's most unique and waterfront hotel.

PS Emmylou (b. 1980) is our fully licensed restaurant paddlesteamer, seating over 40 guests for morning tea, afternoon tea, lunch or dinner, and comfortably accommodating 18 guests overnight. Our chefs prepare all meals freshly onboard, and the menus are changed seasonally complimented with a fine selection of wines and beers. Why not indulge, take some time out, and enjoy some delicious food whilst watching the beautiful scenery slide past onboard Echuca's Finest Paddlesteamer, PS Emmylou.

PS Canberra (b. 1913) and Pride of the Murray (b. 1924) are the perfect way to see the old Port of Echuca from the river. Listen to the Captain as they recall the colourful history of the riverboat trade; whilst you cruise past the towering redgum wharves in the area.

If you'd like to make a day of it, you can join us for our famous Wharf - To - Winery package. Arrive at the award winning Morrison's Winery in style, by paddlesteamer of course, to enjoy an afternoon of decadent food and fine wine before enjoying a leisurely cruise back to the Port of Echuca.

For something a bit different, why not experience Riverlights: The Story of Echuca. Set off onboard Pride of the Murray for a 2-course dinner whilst cruising under darkness, before the story of Echuca and the paddlesteamers is revealed before your eyes. We won't say too much, it'll give the surprise away!

Of course, if you would like to experience any of this privately, or create a tailor-made package to suit your needs, all of our paddlesteamers are available for exclusive charter.

Our crew look forward to welcoming you onboard one of Echuca's favourite paddlesteamers!!

Paddle steamer boatsnWe went on the Canberra cute little paddle boat.nStaff are very friendly and the captain is friendly and knowledgeable.nYou have a choice of top covered area or bottom front and back area.nHas a bar and light snacks plus sovereigns.nVery good trip would recommend.nnOn a foot note the local government should invest some steel sculptures on the banks where the last settlers where to make it a bit more realistic.
Murray paddle steam boats are great to visit, especially for kids—they absolutely love them. The boats are fun to explore, with big paddle wheels, old-fashioned design, and lots of interesting things to see and learn. Kids enjoy imagining what life was like on the river long ago, while adults appreciate the history and scenery. The gentle ride along the river, fresh air, and chances to spot wildlife make it a relaxing and enjoyable experience for the whole family.
We did the one hour cruise today with our two kids and it was great. The staff were really friendly and the boat was in great condition. They shared lots of interesting info along the way, and there was a little kiosk on board for snacks and drinks. It was the perfect length for younger kids, and we even got a photo of each of them “steering” the boat.
Fantastic 3 nights aboard the Emmylou sailing from Echuca downstream to Torrumbarry Weir. We were blessed with glorious spring weather for all 4 days of our journey. There are only 8 cabins aboard, so a maximum of 16 guests we had 15 on our trip. Secure undercover parking for our car was provided at Moama and we were bussed the 10 minute drive to the Echuca Port to board. We were welcomed by Captain Tim and Christine the guest services manager. We were introduced to the other two crew members, Engineer Mark and Chef Sean. The cabins aboard are air conditioned and necessarily very small as wide as a double bed and about 2 metres longer, including the ensuite. Cosy and comfortable.nSean was a fantastic cook. The meals aboard were exceptional: varied; generous; and very high quality. Freshly baked treats for morning and afternoon teas, 3 course dinners and scrumptious continental and cooked breakfasts.nCruising down the mighty Murray River was very relaxing and inspiring with the occasional commentary from the Captain. Every day gave a new experience: BBQ dinner under the stars with local singer; visit to the Great Australian Beer Shed; Wine tasting and nibbles at St Annes Winery; walk around Perricoota Station.nA fabulous trip and worth every cent, highly recommended
We did a paddle steamer ride on the Canberra while staying over night at Echuca.nnI’ve done paddle steamers and stayed at Echuca over the years but this was the first time as an adult with the family.nnGreat day out.
