Mungumby Lodge

About

For those searching for the most unique World Heritage boutique lodge accommodation experience in Far Nth Qld or the Greater Daintree Rainforest, Australia - you have found us!

Story

Mungumby Lodge just south of Cooktown and north of Port Douglas or Cairns offers quality accommodation for travellers seeking to stay in a resort style lodge that offers a personal experience. Our property is located at the apex of three very distinct landscapes as well as cultures, we are accessible and open year round. Our bungalows offer ensuite bathrooms and are spacious. They are located within the enclosed gardens and are private. Most guests advise we live in paradise, we wake up to this every day.

Getting here is easy. A top drive from Cairns Airport on the Mulligan Highway is a nice way to travel and suitable for conventional vehicles all year round. Do forget the road to Laura is totally sealed to Laura so why not slip up to the Split Rock art (Queenslands most famous Aboriginal Rock Art) from Lakeland Downs on your way here. Flights to Cooktown are offered x 2 per day Monday-Friday and 1 on Saturday. We also have a private airstrip available next to the lodge. Heli transfers are awesome.

Hikes, Mt bikes, fishing or simply bird watching or photography in the garden are our favourites. Cape York offers fantastic bird watching. Birding at Mungumby is popular with many rare and unique species of birds seen directly at the lodge. See if you can spot the elusive Victoria's Rifle Bird near the car park!

Our guests come from all over the world and around Australia. We also welcome locals from Cape York all the way down to Townsville and many other Australians from all over our great country. The cool Mungumby Lodge air, gardens, and waterfalls flowing all year and not to forget the yummy food we prepare.

This was a must do stay! Mungumby is a perfectly situated bit of paradise! We enjoyed the most relaxing time during our three night stay. The hosts enthusiasm and area knowledge is remarkable. The retreat itself is amazing with numerous nature related walks and experiences. Thoroughly enjoyed this experience and will certainly be coming back. Treat yourself to this experience!
Great location, cabins and facilities, near the lions den pub ideal for dinner, or use the BBQ facilities on site. We had 2 nights with the kids and which was very relaxing. We visited Cooktown, the owners were great at recommendations of where to go and local walks. Sandy and Kate
A serene tropical oasis nestled at the foot of the rainforest covered mountains on the banks of a quiet little stream...oh come on what more could you ask? The owners were very friendly and helpful. The cabins where very clean and welcoming with comfy beds. We ate at the quirky, Lions Den Pub just a short drive down the road and the food and atmosphere were great. The lodge is only a short 26km outside of Cooktown and I would give it 6 stars if I could. Thank you Hamish for you hospitality.
Mungumby Lodge was an unexpected rainforest retreat and surprise! Hosts Isabella and Hamish were warm, welcoming, genuine, informative and thoughtful. The wood cabin was just right with room to place our bags, essential kitchen items, clean throughout, spacious bathroom and a wee verandah for brekkie where we watched the Ulysses butterflies, innumerable birds, lizards and other natural beauties wander by through the well tendered gardens. The rainforest wander to the waterfall and private swimming holes was an absolute treat .... and spotting the next pink ribbon was like an adventure trail. We selected a remote swim hole at the base of a very old and well rooted tree .... spectacular!! We chose to BBQ on our second night and the view and night sounds were a constant source of joy as the dark descended and the sky lit up with stars. Isabella also suggested things to see...like the amazing Archer Point which we may have missed if she had not shared her local knowledge. So helpful! The entire experience was memorable. Thanks so much Isabella and Hamish for everything.
Came up to Mungumby for one night, and loved it. Isabella and Hamish are the best hosts and nothing was an issue. Cairns locals do yourself a favour and come up here, unplug and relax! in a great rainforest surrounding. We will be be back for sureRooms: 5/5
I'm only giving 2 stars. Good review: Its a nice place to get away from technology and the noises of the bustling city. Bad Review: No ceiling fan just a pedastool one. No air con for the summer. No heater if you get cold.No cooking facility. Have to share the public one. No free wifi as advertised. Says non-smokers only but people still smoke. Hot water doesn't come through right away can take anywhere from 2-10mins. Need to run every time you need it. Villa's all look the same. Have to be careful you got the right one. You don't want to accidentally walk in someone else's. Don't like it there. But apart from that it was great
We recently stayed here and loved this beautiful place. Amazingly hospitable hosts, cosy comfortable cabins and tranquillity to die for. No internet makes it an ideal place to unwind in nature, explore your surroundings and understand why David Attenborough stayed here. Can't get a better recommendation than that.Rooms: 5/5
If you want to get away, this is it. Beautiful location with simple cabins. Good for a digital detox. Worth the walk to the waterfall.
Beautiful property with hosts that do whatever it takes to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. Walk to the water or creek. Fireplace set at night under the stars. Just waiting for your match. Had whole place to ourselves which was a nice post covid bonus. Rooms are new, comfortable and clean.Rooms: 5/5
Amazing hideaway, nestled in the Daintree, with running waterfalls on the property. It is picturesque, the hosts friendly and welcoming. One of the most pleasant sleeps Ive had, and woke up to fresh mango's and a walk to a private swimming hole, thru some of the most incredible rainforrest. Staying here will elevate you spiritually. I can't believe its not advertised, but Sir David Attenborough stayed and filmed here. 6 stars.
