I have been to the New Mills Street Surgery countless times, and I have nothing but positive things to say about the nurses and the doctor! THANK YOU to the lovely, lovely team for helping me be happy and healthy. I appreciate you!!! 100% recommend for anyone who is considering going here.
Stay away from this practice, it's unsafe. I know the NHS is in a dire situation due to continued cuts, but compared to other GPs I've had, this one is the worst. Very ineffective, long delays with paperwork, long phone waiting times, just seems to be not fit for purpose. Thanks to my experience with them I decided to get private insurance, but they wouldn't even sign my papers so I could go private, I had to beg and they took months. They took ages to link the practice to NHS app. GP appointments only given if you call at 8am when the lines are utterly congested. I called to request a repeat prescription already a week ago for a very important medication, they cut me off, dismissed me and just asked me to email and there's been no reply, nothing. I had to get sorted by 111 out of hours GP, who said the practice had cancelled my repeat prescription so it added extra difficulties. It seems as though the place is broken since Dr Champion retired, not sure. Fortunately o have moved now and will be under a different practice. Just avoid.
Have had OK and less Ok experiences with this surgery. This week, my experience was not great unfortunately. 2 days ago, I called for the test results of my MRI scan which were finally in 3 months after I had been referred due to the big backlog at the hospital. The nurse on the phone told me I needed to call the next morning for an on the day phone appointment to discuss my results with the doctor. The next morning, I called at 8.45am. All on the day appointments had already been filled by then, so she recommended me to call back the next morning no later than 8am. Fair enough. I called this morning at 8am. The nurse tells me the doctor has put in the notes to book a routine appointment to discuss the results and not an on the day appointment. Next available routine appointment is over a week away. I understand the backlogs and that if the results of my MRI scan aren’t urgent thankfully that they want to leave the urgent appointment slots for people who need it more. What does really frustrates me though is that I spoke to the nurse both yesterday and the day before, and wad told both times that I should book an on the day appointment by calling in the morning at 8am, while all along they could have checked and seen the notes about the routine appointment and booked me in 2 days ago which probably would have meant I could have had an appointment much sooner. Zero acknowledgment or apologies for this incompetence when I explained this on the phone. Very frustrating experience. :
I've been really happy so far.. Easy to get appointments just phone up and phone gets answered quickly. Non urgent appointments within 1 - 2 weeks which is perfectly acceptable. Lovely receptionists and GPs. Keep up the good work - you are appreciated!
I'd give zero stars if I could. The lack of care, accountability and attention paid where people's health is concerned is disgusting. Nothing that the receptionists say they are going to do is ever done. Promises of returned phone calls never kept. The only option left to you is to continue to call to make pleas so that your healthcare needs are belatedly met, only to be fobbed off again and treated with rudeness. The impacts of this incompetence are real. Pain and sickness are left unaddressed, people suffer.
The lady on the phone is not trying to be helpful at all. My appointments got cancelled without any notice.
I've met better receptionists, that's for sure... Just moved to the area and tried to register. Followed the exact procedures on the website, like sending an email with my details and ID, and was expecting a call in 3-5 days. I waited 2 weeks before calling and had a very frantic and mildly rude receptionist tell me they were swamped with registrations so she couldn't find me or process me they had 100 registrations for the team in 3 weeks which, to be frank, does not seem like a lot. The receptionist told me to call back after the weekend. So, I hope you all know where this is going, I call back on Monday. Different person picks up complains about me checking my registration to her colleague whilst I can hear, always nice and tells me I'm not on the system and she can't find me. Proceeds to tell me I need to send another email to, wait for it, the same inbox I emailed over 2 weeks ago. I am just... a bit shocked at how incompetent these people are. Haven't yet seen a doctor so can't rate the care, will update if I ever make it through the gauntlet of receptionists
People having problems with registration. Just a suggestion: register in person only sit down with a qualified registrar, take photo of patient sitting in front of registrar. In house camera and dont leave until patient is verified and registered. Allocate 1 hour per registration then no mistakes can be made. Get shown round surgery meet everyone, get shown facilities even the back rooms, get shown clinics in process. Or get a virtual view online of facilities. Have care and understanding. Give the patient a personal touch, and a wellcome package. Full of goodies. Practical Ideas. All best wishes.
This is an excellent GP practice. The reception team is always friendly and very helpful in my experience. Nurse I met when I registered was nice and reassuring. Every doctors I saw are fantastic, they knew exactly when a situation is urgent and were capable of diagnosing hard to spot illness. Words are not enough to say how much I appreciate this GP practice.
Why do the receptionist even bother coming in to work?!They sit there and you can be standing ourside the door waving at them to open the door and they just ignore you. The last time she said ring the bell and I told her I had! Even though I turned up for my appointment on time, I was 5 mins late for my appointment because no one would open the door... because of this the doctor decided to see the next patient whose appointment was 15 mins after mine. Even though I was checked in, the other patient got called before me. I had to wait for 45 mins! And Dr. Campion, well he kept us waiting for half an hour while he arrived late, then spent time chatting to the receptionist etc, then went to change his clothes. Just awful.
