The food here truly doesn’t disappoint. The green fish curry is absolutely delicious, rich, and fragrant that I couldn’t stop eating it. The smashed green papaya salad was also a standout, fresh and vibrant with a great balance of flavours.nnEverything we ate felt well balanced and full of vivid and fresh flavours, making the whole meal really enjoyable. Mekong Baby is definitely a place I’d happily come back to.
We went to Mekong Baby on a Thursday night and I’m so glad we booked ahead — it was packed. Our waitress was incredible: super friendly, great to chat with, and an absolute genius. She remembered our entire order for six people without writing anything down, and everything came out perfectly.nnFor our group of six, we ordered a big mix of dishes.nnSmall plates: Crispy Squid; Vietnamese Mint & Nuoc Cham; Crispy Lamb Ribs with green chilli herb relish; Grilled Eggplant; Wagyu Beef with X.O sauce and peanuts; Silken Tofu.nnBig plates: Pad See Ew; Braised Beef Skirt with kai lan and rolled rice noodles; Lombok-style Roasted Ayam TaliWang Chicken with chilli sambal and grilled pineapple salad; Braised Crispy Pork Belly with caramelised chilli & soy and Asian slaw.nnCurries: Madurese Goat Curry with lime, fresh shallots & coconut; Red Beef Curry with eggplant & betel leaves.nnSides: Roti and jasmine rice.nnFor any dishes that came with a set number of pieces, they kindly adjusted them so there were sixnnThe crispy lamb ribs were hands-down our favourite starter: unique, perfectly balanced in flavour, and the texture was unreal.nFrom the big plates, the crispy pork belly was the standout — crunchy, sweet, and not at all gummy. I usually avoid pork belly because it’s too fatty, but this was incredibly crispy and juicy at the same time. The slaw it came with was also incredible.nnI also ended up loving the Pad See Ew, even though I’d never tried it before. It had that perfect smoky wok flavour, chewy noodles, tender beef and a sauce that coated everything properly.nnThe roti was great too — served as mini little circles, perfect for sharing one each.nnThere was so much food, but every bite was spot-on. The only dish we wouldn’t order again was the crispy squid — it just felt a bit plain compared to how flavour-packed everything else was.nnOverall, we were so happy with the whole experience. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time and such a great place for sharing dishes. Highly recommend!
Overall, I would eat at this restaurant again if I revisit Auckland. The food was out of this world tasty. I made it a point to take a picture of the menu so I could remember what was ordered.nnFOOD: We were not hungry by wanted to try a light fare in the Ponsoby area so we opted for Thai only because I love Thai lol. For starters, we ordered the crispy squid and the prawn and ginger dumplings and the kid doesn't necessarily like dumplings but they ate most of the order lol. The sauce that came with the squidand dumplings was delicioso. Next, I asked for a light, refreshing salad and the waiter suggested the Mango, young coconut, king pawn salad. Spicy, sweet, crunch, delicious... it satisfied everything. And finally, for the best part of the meal as always, drumroll... we got the Apple-almond tart. It has a miso-butterscotch sauce. Whoever created this dessert, thank you! I can try to describe it in one word...WOW! It is one the best things I've ever eaten PERIODT.nnSERVICE: Everyone we spoke to and interacted with, from the guy at the bar to our waiter to whoever took my payment, was polite and helpful. This is what service should be like!nnAMBIENCE: It was a beautiful space. From the light fixtures to the different sitting areas to the bathrooms... you can tell a lot of thought went into the design.nn$$: I am inclined to say it was probably one of the pricier places we ate at but it was WELL WORTH IT. I left the restaurant with a full belly and a smile on my face.
Our friends took us to this amazing place. We went all out with the Nine Dragons Delta set menu. Every plate had its own unique flavour, beautifully balanced and well thought out. Every cocktail came out perfect. The ambiance was pumping and the service was attentive with a unique polish personality. On top of this, each table had smiling faces and great vibes. 100% recommend
