Instant favorite! My wife and I both think the Malt Shed is worth 10 stars! We visited on a Friday night for dinner and were greeted by friendly, obliging bar and wait staff. Promptly seated with a couple of superb dark ales from the comprehensive range of house brewed beers and after a short perusal of the menu we decided to try some of the black onyx beef to go with the beautifully rich dark ales. After a starter of beautifully prepared honey soy chicken wings my wife had the 300 gram rump and I had the beef short ribs. Now, I could bang on all day about how good the food was but to put it in perspective I asked my wife "how's the steak?" To which she replied "I haven't had a steak this good since our wedding!!" That was 5 years ago!!! Personally I'm a huge fan of slow cooked / smoked meats and these beef shorties were honestly the best I've had! We were lucky enough to have a convo with the chef and he informed me the ribs were cooked by his 3rd year apprentice in his own smoker! That kind of initiative by young enthusiastic staff strikes a massive chord with me. Chef also went above and beyond by putting his after work pint on hold and preparing a dessert for us after the kitchen had closed. The tasting paddle with a choice of 6 malt shed brews was very reasonably priced and offered a wonderful variety. All in all, a wonderful experience and well with every penny! 11 out of ten!!!
Great pub/brew house in the heart of Wangaratta. Excellent beer, great local wine list featuring King Valley and Rutherglen region wines, and generous servings of excellent food. You won't be disappointed.
Friendly staff did well to handle a massive influx of people , food was tasty and tender.
Great music festival we happen on. Excellent range of boutique brewery beers. A milk stout and a citrus lager were both tasty. Pulled pork nachos and crispy crunchy waffle chips hit the spot. The Malt Shed Rocks.
The beer is amazing. If you want to have a change from a commercial lager, the Malt Shed is the go! Food was delicious. Service quick for a reasonably priced meal. Entertainment superb. A must do in Wangaratta.
Very disappointed with our visit. When ordering our meals we said that we would like two of the share options to begin, before our main meals. Our main meals arrived at the table first. When we queried why the starters had not come out we were told that their way of doing things was to bring everything out together and it was our fault for ordering everything on the same docket. We should have gone up and ordered our starters and then gone back up and ordered our main courses. The person taking our order should have advised us on the issue. Notwithstanding this, the main courses were only warm. This is also the first place where I have ordered chicken parmigiana and salad has not been included. There were two options for red wine as this is a brewery, two red wine choices is fine but one of the choices was out of stock as they had sold six bottles of it the day before. This is not fine. Not a good start guys.
Beers were great we had the Malt Shed Pale Ale but food was average and we left disappointed. The ribs were incredibly dry, and the burger was similar to what you'd find in a low-end pub. Overall design of the Shed is a little confused, the material palette is incompatible and leaves you feeling a little uncomfortable, but you can't quite put your finger on why. Parking is pretty limited around 6 spots inside the property, and 8 or so on the street, but not bad if you get there before 6pm, or are happy to walk a few hundred metres. The staff were alright and the beer was great, but unfortunately not enough to bring us back. Verdict: alright, but nothing flash. Hopefully once they get their stride it'll all come together!

Came here just over a year ago on an accidental discovery. Greated with a young enthusiastic guy behind the bar who went above and beyond going through all the beers with my partner and I. Today a young female behind the bar was keen to sit down and get back on her phone before my partner even left the bar. Raved on to the kids how amazing the burgers were last time and since passing through we thought we'd share the epicness but unfortunately left very disappointed, chips seems undercooked and soggy and my partner and I were left very underwhelmed with our AFC Chicken burger which was so sub par to the memorial burger we have been dreaming about since last year. Further disappointed was to learn the dark mid we discovered last time was discontinued.. Sorry guys, we loved you last time, it's an awesome space and your vast majority of the beers makes it worth the stop but there is defs not the same vibe there was there a year ago.
