My organisation works with some of the most vulnerable people in our community. I went in to Liquorland today to ask for any donation (item or voucher, any giveaway item even if non-alcoholic) for a raffle prize for our quiz fundraiser. I was told that they are not allowed to give anything to the community because they are a liquor outlet. I am confused! I went to another liquor outlet just up the road from Liquorland and they kindly donated a few glasses and a bottle of sauce which were giveaway items. This raises two issues: (1) I don’t mind if Liquorland simply said ‘No’, it is their right to do so and I would understand BUT saying they are not allowed to give anything to the community because they are a liquor outlet is ridiculous, a contrived excuse. Be honest Liquorland and just say ‘No’ next time - we’d appreciate your honesty, really. (2) Obviouisly, based on what I was told, it seems Liquorland does not give back to their local community. Disappointing! My friends, colleagues and I are (used to be!) regular Liquorland shoppers - Our collective spend per year is perhaps a drop in the ocean to Liquorland and they will likely not miss our business BUT we will not support this store again.
