Not only a beautiful place to see the penguins, but a gorgeous place to beach comb for rocks that nature has polished to perfection.
We read about the penguin viewing platform and had to explore it. Each evening volunteer rangers come and give a short presentation about the penguins. We saw 60 parent penguins coming out of the ocean, to feed their chicks. The chicks stayed close to their nests while they patiently waited. The experience lasted 2 hours, all for the cost of a donation. Definitely worth doing. A wonderful experience. Child and wheelchair friendly. Rug up in dark clothing, as it gets very cold once the sun goes down. Flash photography is not allowed, so amateur photos aren't very clear. But I had to take a few pics, to remind me of this awesome evening. I love penguins. Rug up in dark clothing, it gets very cold once the sun goes down
Visited the Lillico Beach Penguin Viewing Platform tonight. The Guides were exceptional and seeing the penguins was amazing. A late night but well worth it for the memories.
Lovely place to watch penguins from. Keep dogs in camper during penguin viewing!
The beach is a great place to relax. There is a conservation team which limits areas that you can access but it is all for a good reason. Penguins usually turn up during spring time to lay their eggs. The birds are beautiful things about 30-35cm tall.
All along Tasmania’s north-west coast are rookeries for the world’s smallest penguin. The aptly named little penguin grows to just 30 centimetres tall and one kilo in weight. These guys show up from September to May when they come ashore to make their nests in burrows along the coast. During this time they’ll spend most of the day fishing, and will return to their nests in the evening. This sight of penguins waddling up the shore can be witnessed just after sunset at the shingle Lillico Beach directly east of Ulverstone. The beach is a conservation area, and a team of volunteers organises a penguin viewing tour from a platform above. You’ll be given a factsheet and will hear interesting details about the little penguins and their breeding, nesting and feeding habits. Remember to dress for the cold, and to wear dark colours. The beach is also noted for its large rock pools, attracting other birdlife including pelicans, red-capped plovers and pied oystercatchers
This beach was actually named after my grandma's family. It is such a beautiful place. Love visiting there and learning more about my ancestors.
I picked up so many stones
Something's stand alone , this is one, local call in out of the cold.
