Most secretive and unhelpful council, but maybe they’re all like that. We were having issues with our neighbour who was building an extension. We were not notified even though the works were less than 2m from our house and they were using our driveway for access. I asked the council to provide me with relevant legislature/guidelines regarding notification of works as we don’t understand how a building site that close doesn’t warrant notification. They stopped responding to my emails.nWe also had trouble with the neighbour building after hours and I spoke with the most condescending person, not helpful at all.nWhen you ask for information they stop responding to you. We’ve ended up moving as the neighbour became abusive. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the council, thought they were meant to help their residents.nnUpdate: 11/12/25nSpoke to the planner today, who was VERY rude. I still don’t understand why we weren’t notified. She tried to pass the buck when I said the neighbour had been using our driveway, she said it’s a “civil matter.” Knox city council DO BETTER.
I wasn't expecting to write this review. Up until now I've had only good conversations with staff members.nnI applied for some building plans in relation to a property I won at auction pending settlement in July 21/07/2025. I called on that day to confirm the process Interaction 1nnOn the 15th Business Day the estimated time advertised on Knox Council's website being 08/08/2025, I called to check in on the status of my application. The lady mentioned that the other lady looking after my file wasn't in today, but would send the plans by Monday 11/08/2025 Interaction 2.nnToday I called 12/08/2025 to double check to see where they were at. A man named Peter answered and in a fairly brash/defensive tone mentioned that as I had not settled the property, they could not send the plan Interaction 3.nnThis was the first time hearing of this. In neither of my previous interactions did the council mention that I had failed to provide / was required to provide a consent letter had I known, I would have requested this from the vendor in July.nnUpon checking, I can see it is mentioned on the website this is 100% my bad, howevern1. Council's failure to explain this to me over the phone;n2. The fact that the website allows you make the application without attaching a consent letter instead of marking it as a mandatory field; andn3. Radio silence from Council during the 15 business days obviously caused confusion they should have sent an email to make a note of the missing consent letter;nnis poor form.nnAnd I would have let it go if Peter was a bit nicer about it - but he was extremely defensive and abrasive over the phone.
Turns out that the refusal to excuse parking permits is written on a 'standard letter' format as a few of the staff here have received them. It's not the Council's role to punish us for the odd lapse. We are constituents. I have successfully remembered to place my parking permit on my car for 500 days in a row at the Wantirna Mall. That should mean something when undertaking a review. You weigh things and act accordingly. You have not reviewed my fine and made a reasonable judgement. You behaved in a punative manner and this does not sit well with me or any of the staff here.
What a disgrace Knox council after previous photos and sent to you and asked 3 months ago and 5 calls to you about the state of the car park staff member replied 4 days ago it will be done before the finals that had 3 games on today and another 3 next week she said there was workers as we speak going out to fix this problem well guess what you failed and need to resign no wonder Knox council has 2 star rating and don’t blame Melbourne water as I stated it is the other end of the work being done end of were they are working
