Ah... Ironside... the place with the most mind-bogglingly enjoyable experiences I've had since... ever, really. I went here when my mom I cry everytime I see the U, I'm sorry, it makes me wanna book a one-way ticket back there, so I use the O as a way to distance myself from impulsive thoughts got her PhD at UQ. I was only seven. Screaming and crying at the airport because I was leaving behind my main caregiver since birth, my grandma, AKA mom's mom. Spending year 2 'till year 4 in Australia was not as bad of a thing 7-year-old Fay who was sniffling on the airplane thought it would be. Okay, that's an understatement.nnFrom pretty much optional homework to Mrs. Savage accidentally-on-purpose turning her Music class into a lecture on hair color genetics, or from reading some of the most life-changing books I'll ever read my whole life to honing my English language skills to the point that I could probably beat a native at a spelling bee or a fiction writing contest. Ironside was the Hogwarts to my Harry Potter — minus the magic, which is kind of a bummer, but I'll take it lol.nnThank you to Mrs. Corderoy? is that how you spell her name? for helping me build a good foundation of myself, be it academically or just in general, you did the hardest work. I'll forever treasure you.nnThank you to Mrs. King who saw what even most other educators missed, my potential, the spark in me, all of my determination. You did all the smart work. I cherish the short time you were in my life.nnAnd last but not least, thank you to Ms. Young whom I guess to be Mrs. Old by now for the endless books and games and other fun activities present in your classroom. Maybe, if it weren't for the sheer amount of books you introduced to me and your other students, I wouldn't be as interested at creative writing right now. Thank you for adding the finishing touch in my journey in the land down under. Maybe I could've survived with just hardwork and smart work, but — without your artwork — it would never be as beautiful.nnDid I just... write that? Oh well, it'd be a waste to delete it.
Graduated a bit back when Mr Johnson was principal aka the really good principal before Ms. Kelly so I can only say from my experience.nnThe library is the best place in the entire world. Make sure you're on Ms. Roche's good side because if you are she'll be like a mother to you throughout your time and if not...nnThe camps are really fun and enjoyable- especially grade 6 camp. It's not even a camp. It's a 5 day field trip to Sydney/ Canberra. We love Questacon.nnSome of the teachers I had were really good, like Mrs. Lord and Mr. B. Too bad most of the good teachers went au revoir to the school because of Mrs. Kelly. Rightfully so I guess.nnTo all the kids in Ironside and excited to leave the school: Don't be. I was and now I'm depressed because of my school.
I'm disappointed with the direction the school has taken under the new principal. There seems to be a heavy focus on finances, and it feels like the needs of the children are no longer the top priority. Decisions that should benefit the students seem to be overshadowed by concerns about money, which is affecting the overall environment and experience for the kids. It’s frustrating to see such a shift away from what truly matters—our children’s education and well-being.nnThe principal Miss Kelly seems to approach her leadership like a politician instead of a school principal. Carla seems to be out of her depth and they both need to stop alienating the school community—there are plenty of other school options in the area, and Ironside is sinking faster than the Titanic.
Miss Kelly, the Principal, is truly the most modern and forward-thinking educational leader I have encountered. Under her guidance, my child has experienced a safe and contemporary classroom environment. Students who have the opportunity to learn under her will never encounter a more dedicated and focused Principal. Miss Kelly is truly ahead of her time!
It is a very good school and I just groudouated from it j love it so much
