In September last year a driver drove into the side of my car causing damage to my doors. The elderly driver refused to accept liability and lied to his insurance company State Insurance, owned by IAG. Sadly without a witness it was my word against his and his insurance company fixed his car but refused to even look at mine. Not only were State extremely unhelpful and very uncooperative, causing a lot of unnecessary delays and inconvenience, they closed their file. So, I took them to court, and WON!!! Am just about to receive what they should have paid in the first place. Don't be afraid of these greedy money making companies, stand up for what you KNOW is right, and fight for what you believe. Finally, choose your insurance company wisely because I certainly wouldn't trust ANY of them, especially STATE INSURANCE.

It is clear that IAG and it's subsidiary companies deserve the lowest possible rating! This is a warning to anyone making a claim with this group of companies, when you think you have done the right thing to insure yourself against damage or loss (it's essential to have building/construction insurance). The experience of those in Christchurch is common now to this insurance industry. They will try to minimise their costs with delays, with unacceptable not-to-code botched repairs or call in an assessor/adjuster that will deny any liability!!! This is NORMAL practice for them. Please don't give up! Make sure you proceed with your claim & take this to dispute, to the Ombudsman, or to court if you have to!! Don't give up, you pay your money & believe you are covered for damage (clearly within the contract), but you will unfortunately need to fight for it!!! :'( Good luck!!
