On a recent holiday to Hervey Bay, my wife had an unfortunate accident resulting in her suffering a compressed left wrist fracture. We attended the Emergency Department of the Hervey Bay Hospital in anticipation with the usual long wait often experienced in public hospitals. On arrival, we were greeted by a lovely lady who took all my wife's details. After about an hour, she was ushered into the treatment area where she was taken care of by a friendly and competent team. She was x-rayed to confirm the fracture. After about another hour, she was seen by the on duty doctor who once again was friendly and competent. She was x-rayed again to confirm that the fracture had been set in place. She was then discharged with a referral letter for follow up once we returned to Adelaide. Overall, I found all the staff from the admin lady, all the nurse's, the on duty doctor and even the plaster specialist to be very friendly, competent and engaging. She was treated like an individual and felt very comfortable even while in some considerable pain. I have very rarely had to attend a hospital emergency department but if I do, I hope the treatment and attention I receive is the equal to what my wife received at Hervey Bay Hospital.
My friend was waiting for 5.5hrs to get checked on as she has had an allergic reaction to some medication which has now caused her blood vessels to pop and her rash is now purple but yet she didn’t even make it past the waiting room. What kind of hospital are you? I understand how difficult it must be to be working in a high maintenance environment but you have spent years and time on wanting to help others but your simply doing the opposite. Another girl was waiting 4.5hrs in the bathroom while having a miscarriage and bleeding everywhere, again what kind of hospital are you? absolutely unacceptable and overall disappointment.
First experience we had was when our 13 month old son got Covid , we waited 4 hours in emergency and ended up walking out without seeing a doctor! Second time was Wednesday, our son had fever and again had to deal with same staff ! 5 of them sitting around doing nothing! Was told to sit and wait till someone was ready to ask what’s wrong! Our boy had temp of 39 ! I voiced my anger and was told there’s complaints forms over there fill one out ! Of course there was none left ! Must have all been used ! Not going near this place again.
I have just spent four nights in the maternity ward after being induced and giving birth to my first baby. Although it didn't go to our exact plan - thanks to the baby, I would love to thanks every single staff member in the maternity ward including my midwives from MGP Denise, Amy & Sherie. Also to Jacinta, Kate, Shona & Zoe just to name a few. Even to the surgerical team who brought our daughter into this world it was an absolute amazing first time experience - from first walking in to then walking out yesterday afternoon. Thank you thank you thank you!
My latest Experience at Hervey Bay Hospital was very poor.. I was discharged from hospital with a fractured neck.. the same day i arrived. The I was sent for scans then latter xrays.. I was told my neck was fractured by the nursing staff but the Doctors not once showed me the fracture. No doctor came up and discussed with me treatment options i was given a soft brace soon after arriving.. I was under the impression my neck was sore but not broken until nurses told me. I was discharged without Doctor doing his job and all respobsibilities where handed over to the Brisbane specialist whom 10 days latter i havent heard from.. The communication between Doctor and patient and doctor nurses and Doctor xray technition was extremely poor.. The xray technition did not even know what he was xraying and he asked the patient when i told him C1 he was taken aback.. He was obviously just as informed by the doctors as i had been.. My two previous visits had been good.. I dont know whats changed but the Hospital has gone down the gutter encredibly fast.. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone ATM.. The Hospital and the Doctors should be ashamed of thier extremely poor patient care..
If I could give it a zero I would. Ridiculous long waiting times at the emergency ward. Had better service and help at emergency rooms in 3rd world countries that I visited over the last couple of years. Hervey Bay Emergency Ward is an absolute disgrace
Very impressed with the new Emergency Department.Great service when my Husband needed treatment. Well done to all.
Fantastic experience, when I was feeling so bad. Nurses I had during my overnight stay were as attentive as possible though understaffed. Down to earth, patient and understanding. The surgical team were great. A few minor inconveniences, but all in all, every staff member from triage to discharge did an amazing job.
My mother's legs were so swollen with they were leaking like a tap so her doctor told me to bring her to the H.B.H straight away as her legs needed urgent attention. Arrived here at 2.45pm, my mother is still sitting & waiting for help and it's 9.00pm now. What a joke, she is 90yrs old & they have her sitting up with her legs still down . Still leaking very badly all over the floor & no one's helping. this hospital is a joke & that's putting it lightly.
Agree with previous reviewer Ebony.. 5 hour wait for some attention.... some people needing a doctor just left coz the waiting room was full and no one was being seen.... no information, no apologies.. must be normal to wait 4 or 5 hours with many older people not well... really below expectations ....would not like to go there if really sick..
