3 stars for the rest of the staff but if I could rate lower than 1 star for the triage nurse I would. Invisited Hervey Bay Hospital yesterday and while most of the staff were absolutely lovely, my experience with the first triage nurse was extremely disappointing. She was rude, unprofessional, and had a constant look of disgust on her face, which made me feel very uncomfortable.nnThe doctor and other nurses I saw afterwards were lovely, kind, patient, and caring. After my bloods were taken, I waited in the triage area for about an hour. I completely understand that results take time, and I knew the hospital could contact me if anything urgent came up. I was exhausted after being up all night in pain, so I politely asked to have my cannula removed and said I’d go home and wait for a call if needed.nnThe triage nurse responded with an attitude and said, “So you just don’t want to wait for your blood results then?” in a very rude tone. After 36 hours with no sleep, I simply said yes, I’d like to go home. Thankfully, the doctor came out, was very understanding, and removed my cannula herself.nnDo better, HB Hospital. Working in healthcare should come with compassion and respect for people who are already feeling unwell and vulnerable. I was nothing but polite until I was spoken to rudely. There was no need for that kind of behaviour.
The Ambulance staff, helped immensely when I called after a bad fall.nI was transferred from Maryborough to Hervey Bay. The staff at Maryborough are more dedicated to personal care and I am so grateful for the team Tara and all.. Hervey Bay probably has better scans etc. and I believe it's more a training ground at HBay. All said n done, QLD Health is fabulous. I did discharge myself due to chronic back pain arthritis and the
On Friday , Hubby and I had just walked out of Bunnings when my heart suddenly started racing hard and fast, and it didn’t stop. Within a couple of minutes we knew something wasn’t right, and the closest place for help was Main Street Medical Centre, which is our usual clinic.nnI didn’t have an appointment. I just walked in. They didn’t hesitate for even one second. Within minutes the nurse had me on an ECG, the doctor had an IV line in, and the ambulance was already on its way. That’s where it was confirmed I was in SVT for the first time in my life, sitting at over 200 bpm for 26 minutes. Their quick thinking and calmness honestly still blows me away.nnThe paramedics were incredible too. Calm, reassuring, and so professional. I was taken straight into Hervey Bay Hospital without being ramped and received care the moment we arrived. The kindness from this team was commendable.nnEvery doctor and nurse I saw was outstanding. They were extremely busy being a Friday night and Year 12 Graduation, yet made me feel like I was the only person there. Their kindness, patience, gentle nature and the way they explained everything made such a difference. I never felt rushed or overlooked for even one moment.nnBefore I left I also needed an iron infusion and spent my final five hours with Cameron and Ange in the Transit Lounge. I haven’t laughed that much in ages. Cameron deserves an award for his wittiness. He is an absolute legend.nnTo every single person who helped me on Friday and Saturday... the team at Main Street Medical Centre, the paramedics, the doctors, the nurses, the specialists and the Transit Lounge crew ... thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Your care, compassion and quick actions made all the difference.nnFeeling incredibly grateful and very supported.

Hervey Bay hospital could be amazing.nUnfortunately after 11 years of dealing with this and Maryborough hospitals staff, I am currently in agony with crushing anxiety at the thought of dealing with the staff... 70/30 chance of being treated amazingly. Feeling heard and treated like an actual person not a number who isnt an easy box to tick for fixing.nI have had both my daughters at Hervey Bay hospital and due to the 70/30 of help and amazing staff, to staff that need a job change maybe.... Both my daughters births were at risk, luckily the 30% part of staffing that is amazing helped my beautiful daughters be healthy and safe. For myself healthdirect information... ALL information for my symptoms is to seek medical care urgently, I got this advice at 2:45am... im still trying to get past the anxiety and extra pain im going to endure while finding out if I will even be helped. Will this be a 70% time where as a chronic pain sufferer im treated like crap and ignored as chronic pain sufferer hospital is the very last place we want to be. The only time is when there is something new causing the pain to be unmanageable, not because we are bored or whatever ridiculous reasoning that allows the disgraceful levels i have been treated by staff.nSo I cant say I dont recommend this hospital. I am saying that it needs some empathy and understanding mental health better training. Understanding that we dont all fit in a text book and that doesn't make us any less of a person. What happened to wanting to find the cause of a problem and actually healing the sick or even helping give back a quality of life, not just applying a very cheap already failing bandaid to cover all....nHope this makes sense pain levels are topping well above a 9 now and getting a tad dizzy yet still afraid and anxious to call the ambulance and deal with the 70/30 starting from the ambulance staff all the way through. Things need to change back to the small country town values of helping people, not judging without knowing. Don't judge a book by its cover...nWide Bay should say.... we have and are already judging you, your care will depend on how we choose to judge you this time because you need help at a broken, unwell and vulnerable time and you actually need us to help....
