Have been renting with Hertz for over 10 years mainly because their cars seem to be nicer compared to other rental companies like Budget. However until last week I rented a car for 3 days at Hertz Mitchell ACT. While everything else was ok, I was very disappointed with the child seat they provided, despite I clearly told the staff when picking up the car that the child seat is for 6 month old. Until the next day I installed the child seat and put my baby in to go shopping and found out the child seat was too large for my baby which was totally unsafe. I tried to call them, no answer. Left them a voice message and never received a call back. So had to run outside to get a new seat. At the end of rental, when returning the vehicle I’ve mentioned about the child seat was totally unusable for my child and would not pay for that. The counter staff said that they only have child seat for over 1year old but not 6 month old baby, oh well why didn’t you tell me earlier at the time when picking up the car??? And still charged me 1/2 fee of the child sea after all, for something I couldn’t use. I don’t see any of this was my fault.nHertz is a reputable well known brand, so you should have done better than that.nnCustomer's real name is different for privacy
I recently rented a vehicle for a long distance, multi-day trip. Unfortunately on the second day, some distance from home, the vehicle had a minor mechanical issue. Tracy the franchisee/owner immediately leaned in to the problem and I appreciated her proactivity to discuss options and get us going again. I could not recommend Hertz Mitchell highly enough.
I would have given more stars, the truck I rented was exactly what I wanted. It was clean, recent model and reasonable to drive. The initial service was also good. However, when I returned there were problems.nnDuring the borrowing process, I was not clearly asked where I was driving Canberra to Melbourne and back and was not charged the proper mileage rate. This mean that I lost my bond and was charged extra upon return for going over the daily limit. While this mistake is annoying and should be addressed by the company, the insult to injury was the attitude of the person handling my check-in. When he first started telling me about this problem, he began talking really fast and would not let me ask any questions, or mention that I had not been initially asked where I was driving. I finally managed to get a word in and he told me that I was 'cutting him off.' I told him that he wasn't letting me talk.nnHe did shut up then so that I could tell him that there was no point him going on about the legalities of what I was going to have to pay while I was still processing what had happened and reminded him that no one asked me about destination. However, as far as I could see, without making a scene, I would have to pay the extra. He gracelessly apologized that no one asked me about this at the time of rental and then rapid fire told me the conditions again. Given his attitude, I have no confidence that the fact that someone on the desk slipped up will be addressed and employees would be reminded to check these details. His brusqueness and desire to not deal with my issue has left me with reservations as to whether I would rent from Hertz againnnTLDR: some of the people at the desk need a bit of customer service training. Had I been in the mood to explode, my treatment at that point would have set me off.
In fact the office is not open on public holidays despite stating it online, on the door and in person. We dropped off the car at the in our booking confirmed time and location but were left with empty hand. It’s 2025, get a key drop-off box. When calling costumer service we were held in line for an hour, had to rush to the airport to drop off the car there and nearly missed our bus.nReally unprofessional and caused everyone involved unnecessary stress. Work on your system.
No issues. Car was ready on my arrival. Brand new Mazda. It was cleaned. Had fuel. Staff were friendly. All good :nnEdit: magic erasered the number plate for media.
