Very Disappointing Experience – Avoid!nnMyself, my wife, and my 16-year-old son were all members at Fitness First in Brighton, and I regret ever signing up. What should have been a positive and supportive environment turned out to be the opposite—especially for my son. The staff made him feel incredibly uncomfortable during his workouts, to the point where he completely refused to return.nnRather than encouraging younger members who are just starting their fitness journey, the staff came across as rude, dismissive, and totally unprofessional. There was no sense of care or effort to make him feel welcome or supported.nnFor a gym that claims to cater to all ages and abilities, their treatment of younger members is unacceptable. We’ve since cancelled our memberships and will not be returning. I would strongly advise others—especially families with teens—to steer clear of this place.

Borderline Harassed by PT Ray ignored by Club Manager - I feel deeply let down by the toxic culture and conduct at this club. Over 10 days ago, I lodged a formal complaint regarding inappropriate behaviour and borderline harassment by staff member Ray, whose actions included defaming my character through gossip — loudly and deliberately — within earshot, despite the matter having been privately resolved. There was a misunderstanding regarding shared used of equipment which was resolved, or so I thought. As a long time paying member, I felt disrespected and unsafe.nnWhat’s worse is the complete lack of accountability. Club manager Justin Palmer made one call to acknowledge receipt of my complaint days later, and since then, there has been silence. I followed up via email, yet no further contact or resolution has been offered.nnRay’s parting words to me — “good luck with your case” — say it all. He clearly knew his behaviour would be enabled and protected. That kind of culture, where harassment is brushed off and complaints go nowhere, is not something I want to be part of.nnThis experience left me no choice but to cancel my membership. So now, I am paying fir a full 30 days, without feel safe to use the remaining of my month. Extremely disappointing.

I cancelled my other gym membership to join FF for the steam room and sauna. I have a Trainer at a different gym and only go here for the treadmill, the steam room and sauna. Sadly, those are only accessible during business hours. So if you join for the sauna or steam room, you will actually not be able to go on weekends or after work! Whyyy? Super disappointing as others have said too.nAt first I kind of understood it because they don’t want to have a medical emergency while there’s no one on staff available however there could be a medical emergency while someone is on staff and they still wouldn’t know by sitting at reception and secondly I was there today Saturday after hours and there was a staff member available but only to make sure that nobody came in for free while these services I pay for were still not available.

This is a very nice gym but due to all the troubles me and my partner had attempting to cancel our memberships and continuing to be charged I would recommend staying away from Fitness First. We went in repeatedly to cancel our memberships in person and still got charged after that.

The Brighton East staff are lovely; professional, cheerful and helpful. The gym is clean and the experience pleasant. I’ve been a member for many years and while other gyms may be cheaper, Fitness First offers the best range of equipment and nicest staff. I go often late at night and I always feel safe. Parking is convenient and appropriately lit. Gym members are universally polite and courteous, which encourages my more regular attendance. I’d highly recommend the gym to anyone contemplating membership, particularly if you are a little older like me, 60 plus.
