Stayed here over the weekend as part of a group of walkers. Really happy with our stay. If you're looking for really good value accommodation in a warm and friendly environment then this place is for you. The owner Brett is also a really nice  guy, and very helpful. The location is great and everything we needed was within easy reach.

Really groovy hostel! Brett is doing stellar work here with an amazing old building. Facilities are clean and tidy, bed was comfy, and the living areas are beautifully decorated and inviting. Will definitely be staying here again in the future.

Stayed in the single room for 2 nights and was welcomed by Brett, he's a genuine and friendly guy. Good location, many tourist places are within few minutes driving distance, PaknSave and Pizza Hut is within walking distance. Generally a great place to stay and I'll be back if I get to travel to New Plymouth again :

The room itself was fine, a bit tired looking, but the bathroom facilities were terrible with a shower that should have been replaced a decade ago. The whole place itself had a weird vibe that was uncomfortable. Value for money is a no go. If this place had been 60 bucks for the night I would have given it a 3 but the fact it cost 90 is disgracefulnnEdit: Changing it to a 1 star because of the bizarre response from the owner

I booked a room in ducks and drakes motel in New Plymouth for 2 days.First day everything was perfect and on second day i had to shift to other room as i booked for bunk bed on 2nd day and then the owner gave me other room as the owner said the bunk bed was broken.The room was stinky and no WiFi.So i asked for refund and the owner initiated the refund and i got the money next day.So today when i checked my bank account,the money is deducted again and i called him bt he shouted at me and cut the call.So i went directly and asked for the reason and the reason for the denial of refund was that I did 1/10 rating for him in booking. com.Such an unprofessional and childish character owner.Also shouted at me and pulled me out of the motel when i asked for refund.Lost my 44 nzd and is there anyway to get my money back as when i reached booking. com,they said that the owner told them that he mistakenly did my refund.
