This is a POSITIVE review specifically for the Northland Regional Corrections Facility at Ngawha. My partner was recently transferred from Mt Eden to NRCF. In the short time he has been in this facility he has described how approachable the guards/wardens are, how generous the food portions are, in fact he can't even eat his entire serving due to lack of food he was served under SERCO in Mt Eden, his stomach has shrunk. He also mentioned how quickly and efficiently numbers and visitors were approved. From my side I would like to back this up with how quickly I was contacted regarding approval of my number, a day or two after his arrival. I travelled from Auckland to make my first visit and unfortunately got very lost on the way (my cousin giving me s short-cut!!) I was in such a fluster when I arrived very late. All other visitors were already seated with the prisoners when I finally found my way to reception. After explaining my circumstances the staff very kindly got approval for me to see my partner. Having travelled from Auckland I was so grateful to find understanding staff who went out of their way to accommodate my lateness. Obviously this won't happen again now that I am ofay with where to go. I am so pleased that my partner is in this facility after the debacle and struggle we both experienced at Mt Eden. Credit where credit is due. Good on you NRCF for giving us an efficient and understanding service. Vey much appreciated.
