My new wife and i had a lovely stay here while on our honeymoon. It is a really nice place if you want to stop driving around and stop for a few days as Hobbiton is only 15mins away, Matamata town centre only 5mins, Rotorua about 35mins, and there are a lot of spas, hot springs and amazing picturesque hikes within 30mins. We were made to feel very welcome and at home by the lovely hosts. We booked the luxury room which was wonderful and private. The home cooked dinner was lovely and the farm fresh eggs for breakfast were yummy. We enjoyed getting to see a bit of farm life on the tour (very different for us as city people). If I had to say anything negative at all it would be that our room had a washing machine in it which we weren't allowed to use unless we payed extra, not an issue really except we came back one day to find that it was being used by staff while we weren't there which we weren't wild about. One of the housekeeping staff members was also quite rude to us on multiple occasions. Make sure the owners know about any allergies as well as the office admin we booked through failed to pass some on, no damage done though. Petty issues at the end of the day as our room was clean and comfortable and very well equipped and our hosts caring, understanding and attentive. Can honestly say I have no issue recommending this place to anyone who has to stay in or around Matamata.
