The Horse and Jockey Inn is the perfect place to meet for lunch or dinner, a casual bar snack, or a drink after work in our lovely spacious, garden bar.
Anniversary, birthday, family reunion, business meeting, we have a large venue and we can cater to your needs and for most occasions

When you are visiting Matamata or the Hobbiton movie scene, we are the ideal place to stay, with affordable accommodation on site, right in the centre of Matamata, just an easy walk to catch the bus to the Hobbiton Movie set.

Free(limited) internet and Off street parking available.

Open everyday, except for public holidays, from 11 o'clock till late.

We ordered drinks first and took them to a table. The staff were attentive and friendly.nThe special of the day was explained to us and I ordered that.nPlates were cleared quickly,  and a BioPak box made of sugar cane offered to take the large uneaten slice of garlic bread away with us.nThe lamb rump main dish with mashed potatoes, vegetables, crumbled feta, and mint gravy was just the right size.nSecond drinks were offered.nYoung people were hanging out on their phones and others playing pool. Large screen TVs were screening a sport channel.

Your staff last night went out of their way to help me after I was left stranded without my belongings. Their help was very much appreciated in what was a stressful time so a big thankyou to your manager and the young lady working alongside him!nThe beer was cold and the bed was comfortable, I will be back!

For a budget hotel the rooms are very good. Windows that open for fresh air, very comfortable bed and bedding. Yes the shower is old but water is hot.nThe dining is what makes this place shine. Excellent meals and snacks.nThe waiting staff are amazing especially Hazel in Bar and Dining, well done for top level customer service.

Friendly staff and delicious food. Well worth a visit for lunch or dinner and we will be back again soon. Pulled pork burger and Sticky chicken dishes were our favorites this time around.

Great surroundings and atmosphere. Steak cooked Rare to perfection and nicely seasoned before grilling.nnStaff very friendly and mean well, although the best of intentions, a little overwhelming when being kept asked if everything is okay...the two male waiters were consistently pleasent and helpful even though what seemed busy moment's with patronsnnKeep up the good work
