Story

The Horse and Jockey Inn is the perfect place to meet for lunch or dinner, a casual bar snack, or a drink after work in our lovely spacious, garden bar.
Anniversary, birthday, family reunion, business meeting, we have a large venue and we can cater to your needs and for most occasions

When you are visiting Matamata or the Hobbiton movie scene, we are the ideal place to stay, with affordable accommodation on site, right in the centre of Matamata, just an easy walk to catch the bus to the Hobbiton Movie set.

Free(limited) internet and Off street parking available.

Open everyday, except for public holidays, from 11 o'clock till late.

Budget..... you get what you pay for. 
Very pleasant staff.  Room very basic no desk /table or chairs. Bathroom useble but moldy in places and some paint coming off. Great powerful shower!

Great value overnight last minute as I couldnt make it home for bed, very clean freshly decorated simple room , friendly staff, right by the town clock and good cafes, info centre etc
Get a wee bit firmer pillows though. Cotton sheets would be cool too.

Clean and tidy and friendly. Great staff. Food was great. They brought water out for our dog, had a chat with us, it was really nice.

Food was ok, but service was terrible. We seemed to be invisible to the wait staff.  Was going to have dessert but the waitress never came round, so paid at bar and left,☹️.

Hotel room was nice and clean and spacious. Washroom was clean and stocked. Room service doing a great job. Bar downstairs closed 8pm on a Saturday for private party. Seems bad practise for their guests however a couple other local bars available.
