The Horse and Jockey Inn is the perfect place to meet for lunch or dinner, a casual bar snack, or a drink after work in our lovely spacious, garden bar.
Anniversary, birthday, family reunion, business meeting, we have a large venue and we can cater to your needs and for most occasions

When you are visiting Matamata or the Hobbiton movie scene, we are the ideal place to stay, with affordable accommodation on site, right in the centre of Matamata, just an easy walk to catch the bus to the Hobbiton Movie set.

Free(limited) internet and Off street parking available.

Open everyday, except for public holidays, from 11 o'clock till late.

Good place to stay! Clean room and facilities, quiet, community kitchen, very nice staff. The rooms are a bit old which is why I find it a bit pricy and which is why it's four not five stars.
rooms are like in the 70’s… toilets for disabled persons out of order??? really??? it was friday night and if you are going to stay above a bar… yeah it’s loud my wrong all in all i guess during the week it’s ok for 1-2 nights
Had meal in restaurant tonight. Very average. Service was slow, fish was fine John Dory not don jory chips were cold as were those in the meals around me. Not sufficient staff would be my estimation. Won’t be back until it improves.
Worst hotel I have ever been at. My main issue is that the curtain is too short for the window and across the street there is a very bright Woolworths sign. Cannot get a wink of sleep. Mattresses are uncomfortable, only one blanket despite being in a twin room. Rooms are absolutely cramped. No cups for drinking or any amenities/toiletries for that matter. Good pub, terrible hotel.
Had Father's Day lunch here yesterday, our third time since recently moving to Matamata. Nice service and the meals were delicious, in particular my baked salmon with the divine sauce !
