Story

Das Kaffeehaus is an ode to Vienna, the heart land. With it's rich furnishings and extravagant decor, even the simplest pleasure of drinking coffee is an experience. With a menu that stays true to Viennese culture, you can sit back and enjoy a moment straight out of a Viennese Kaffeehaus without even leaving the country.

The Schaerf family have been a leading name in the central European coffee industry for over 50 years. Coffee Basics brings this dedication and experience to all their products. Roasting coffee on site at Das Kaffeehaus and selling house and custom made blends through retail and wholesale. Our roastery team are dedicated to bringing you the best quality coffee money can buy.

What an experience!nWe came to Castlemaine to do the parkrun there and came to Coffee Basics for Brekky.nnFrom the warm, friendly and helpful reception on a Saturday mind you to the ordering of drinks and food to the service and the yummy food, we had a fun, memorable, and indulgent experience!nnThe host you can’t think of him as a waiter didn’t just take our order, but sat down with us and invited us to order drinks and food - while explaining everything we were about to experience. Loved the service, the food and the company of course!nnYou don’t want to miss the experience of stopping off at Coffee Basics - Das Kaffeehaus for a coffee, brunch, lunch or simply to enjoy yourself. Do yourself a favour and visit.
We drove from Ballarat with our friends who have been here before and it was absolutely worth it.nWe were greeted at the door and he was great, we were a party of 11 and it was no problem at all. We waited maybe 10 mins to be seated. Our server came over who is also the owner and he was amazing. Obviously super knowledgeable about everything they have but also very personable and funny.nWe ordered a ton of drinks and food it never stopped coming out. From the amazing schnitzel to the chat potatoes everything was amazing. We followed with desserts of all kinds and plenty of dessert drinks as well.nHonestly with not a bad thing to say anything you get will be a winner.nIf you find yourself looking around for German food this is a must.
My mother and I visited Coffee Basics Das Kaffeehaus in Castlemaine for a quick coffee and ended up also ordering two small cakes. The prices were very reasonable for what you get, and everything tasted great.nThe atmosphere was warm and inviting. So much so that we even noticed a couple of customers quietly reading books. The staff were relaxed in a genuinely pleasant way, and the owner personally welcomed us at the door, even opening it for us, which was a lovely touch.nOverall, the coffee was excellent, the cakes were delicious, and the whole place had a really comfortable vibe.
We visit Castlemaine on a semi-regular basis to go to the markets and shops around The Mill.nnThis was the first time we visited Coffee Basics, it always absolutely hectic busy and this day we managed to snag a table.nnWe ordered the the spicy debreziner and the traditional Frankfurt. Both of which were quite good! The sauerkraut was okay and the bread roll was good. We also ordered the chat potatoes which were delicious though quite small for the price.nnEveryone serving was very friendly. We will definitely come back to try the desserts as there were so many good looking options on the menu!
We visit this place every time we are in Bendigo. Many options to select. You will find the menu in German and English.Dogs are not allowed inside but there's outside area to have your dog.nOne should take time to see the nice pictures on the wall.
