I am new to the world of tube amplifiers, and Dallas was extremely generous with his time, and willingness to give honest answers and tips. A gentleman and a true professional.
Simply put, a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge coupled into a lovely accommodating gentleman. Definitely the go to for any true high fidelity enthusiast looking for repairs, upgrades and a damn fine conversation.
Dallas Clarke is an interesting person. Somewhat eclectic and 100% passionate about great sound. What he doesn't know about ultra fidelity and the design and construction, maintenance, repair and upgrading of hi-fi systems and components isn't worth worrying about.
Dallas knows his stuff! This is one chap who is committed and dedicated to highend tube gear. Just had my CJ monoblocks serviced, tweaked and health checked by Dallas. His turn around time was outstanding. I received the amplifiers just after 5days! I can't thank Dallas enough for his skills and expertise, a real legend. Speaking of which, they're are only a few legends left... A must have service/ tech place to go to, if you're as serious in getting your precious gear back to full spec. Thanks a million Dallas. Cheers, RJ
Dallas was able to tell me what the problem was with my amp, why the problem had arisen and then go ahead and repair it within 24 hours. Great price and super fast turn around. Highly recommend!
Some years back, I took a Chinese-made valve amp that I bought online to Dallas for a once over and an upgrade to some important bits. I was marvelling at the sound from this self-same amp over the past weekend, about 8 or 9 years later, which prompted me to get online and finally write this review. The man is unbelievably knowledgeable - and like most people who have encyclopaedic knowledge and a love for what they do, he's happy to share it with those who are interested. In fact I think I spent two hours dropping my amp off and maybe 3 picking it up again, because we got to talking and didn't stop - I'm pretty sure this is not an unusual occurrence either. His workmanship was superb, the parts used were top notch, and his advice was honest and spot on I'd asked him whether he'd replace the mains transformer in the amp, and he declined saying the current unit was up to the task - instead of just doing it and charging me money. In a nutshell, my experience was of an honest if somewhat mad genius who has a genuine love for hifi and knows his capacitors from his cucumbers. I'm kind of sad that my amp never broke down, because I really enjoyed the chat. 5 stars.
I paid $100 for Clarke audio to look at my amplifier. I called a month later to be told, "don't call us we'll call you". After each month went by I would telephone or send an email requesting an update. No response. After 13 months I got in contact with them and went and picked up my amp unfixed with the top lid bolts missing. No $100 refund. There are many other audio repair companies in Melbourne. My advise, go to any but Clarke audio. 0 STARS
My audio research preamp had a channel inbalance. Dallas took just over a week to finalise the repair. On his suggestion I went for a full set of new valves supplied by the valvestore. The service I encountered was top notch and not often encountered these days.
