Came here for lunch with my boyfriend for the first time. We were seated in a back corner with low lighting which made for a very intimate dining experience. We opted for the $25 lunch banquet which provided 3 meals personally selected by the chef. The tostones were amazing and we were both sad that there was only 2. The goat curry was slightly above average; nothing mind blowing but tasty all the same. The jerk chicken was so tasty and the bean salad it came with was great too. Only issue was there was a small section of the chicken that was undercooked, the rest of the chicken was well cooked yet hadn't dried out on the inside and maintained its moisture. Waiters were lovely and explained all the items on the menu with good detail, they were ready to serve us when needed however left us alone enough to enjoy our meal together. Almost all items on the menu were gluten free which meant we could enjoy a variety of meals together. It was lovely and quiet when we first arrived but a large group got seated nearby us which was somewhat frustrating as we would have preferred more privacy and quietness if possible and it seemed quite possible since the rest of the restaurant was empty.
I feel like I should explain my rating since I'm a little surprised that they are so highly rated. I was super excited about finding jerk chicken in Melbourne as I'd been craving jerk chicken from the UK for ages. I really wanted to love the place but was disappointed that the chicken was dry, bland and just generally not jerky jalapeno dressing was good though, the jerk eggplant was equally flavourless. The cauliflower was crunchy and flavoursome and the hibiscus iced tea was not bad however for the price we paid we could have easily fed 4 people at a food truck serving more authentic food. We were seated around the back but was moved to the bar due to a mistake - not a problem at all! We were served by nice attentive staff however sitting by the bar we overheard the manager telling off the chef a few times which I thought didn't make for a great atmosphere. Overall, the dishes we ordered - half jerk chicken, cauliflower, jerk eggplant, side of rice and 2 drinks came to almost $80 for 2 people. For that price, I think you can do better in Melbourne!
I was surprised how quiet it was at lunch time on a Friday afternoon. After waiting 80 minutes for my meal, i understand. The food was interesting, uncommon. Unfortunately it wasn't well cooked, nor did it taste particularly good. The risotto was chewy and the fish was raw in the center.
Outstanding service, jerk chicken and fish were great. Watching your food being prepared was a really nice experience. Desert and cocktails great. No line or wait to be seated at the time i ate here.
The manager seemed annoyed we were eating at the restaurant and reacted begrudgingly to our questions. Food took over an hour to come. One person got all their food , while others got none for awhile. The food itself was disappointing; the Cubano was a joke. It was cold and consisted of what seemed like a processed slice of ham and some sauce between two pieces of roti. It was a really strange, uncomfortable, and unsatisfying experience.
Excellent food and cocktails but service was a little slow, in their defence they were very apologetic and gave us some delicious banana doughnuts so overall a good night out. Hopefully service eis quicker next time
The food was good, but portions too small and pricey for an everyday meal. Come here for something special.
Nothing better than beautiful food cooked and prepared right in front of you and described by a very proud head chef
The place is awesome and the food so yummy we didn't want to leave.
Delicious food and friendly staff. Great cosy atmosphere
