Story

BOURKIE’S BAKEHOUSE is a country style retail and wholesale bakery cafe. Established in 1989, the Woodend business specialises in Cakes, Breads, Pastries and beverages. The bakery is renowned for special occasion and old-fashioned cakes, and our multiple award-winning Vanilla Slice.

Eat-in and takeaway services are provided, with a steady daily trade in breakfasts, lunches and morning/afternoon teas. The business operates seven days a week and weekends are consistently busy.

An Animated Display featuring three bakers at work is a clear winner with children and other customers. It is part of our identity.

Bourkies is built on the belief that good quality products will not let competition from supermarkets and bread franchises upset business success and growth.

We serve traditional favourites but happily introduce more contemporary flavours to our menu, experiment with new products and allow customer preferences to guide us.

The bakery is air-conditioned and seats 38. Outside patrons are sheltered from the elements, with a clear blind not detracting from the outlook towards Mt Macedon. We cater for all types of functions.

The food is super tasty and fresh. I tried meat pies curry and the one with mushrooms And I loved them. Make room for dessert because they have plenty of good options. However, I recommend the Vanilla slice .nThe location of the bakery is convenient, not far from the train station and close to a creek, the community center and some stores.nService is nice and everyone is very friendly. The atmosphere is good, the decoration of the place is pretty cozy.
Beautiful bakery.Pies were fresh and delicious. Big variety of pastries to choose from. Place is kept clean and tidy and staff are all friendly. It gets real busy but well worth the drive and wait. We will be back real soon. Great job to everyone!!
Nice bakery in Woodend. The place was pretty tired and uninspired, and so was the service. There is a seating area inside and outside the restaurant.nnWe had a selection of pies which were quite good! The steak and pepper was great can really taste the pepper, and the pastry was tasty. The desserts - we got the lemon tart and caramel slice - were just average and super sweet.nnDefinitely fine to stop by here for a reliably nice pie but wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to come here.
I come here often - in fact, every single time I'm in town I'll come here. The pies are the best around. The coffee is perfection, and the desserts are fresh and delicious. Take your sweetheart here for something special, and take a walk around the beautiful surrounding areas afterwards. Normally there is a lot of street parking, but it's also a very easy walk from the V/Line station.
We’ve been visiting for over 20 years and are always excited to bring the kids along for the vanilla slice it’s an absolute 4/5 sometimes a 5.nnWhat Burkies is lacking is customer service. Whilst not rude, the servers are inattentive and impatient. We ordered pies and found each one was “unavailable”. Turns out the pies are pretty average head to Kyneton next time. Part of our order was forgotten so we needed to do two transactions. Not terrible but it is something that has reoccurred when visiting again and again.nnThe eclairs, long John and vanilla slice were yummy.nnThe place is looking tired. Time for an upgrade.
