Waited quite a while for drinks and foods, the staff were very busy ANZAC Holiday today. Recommend Chorizo Burrito hehe

Coffee is still good… but the unfriendly female owner was difficult to deal with and it felt awkward to ask for anything. The food came so slowly that we actually had to ask where our order was not even a half full cafe. When the ‘famous’ hash arrived it was a huge disappointment…. NOTHING left of its former glory… just a much smaller plate of tasteless potatoes. Very sad !!!! French toast was great although the owner said there was no ice cream but she was happy to deduct $2 I didn’t even want a discount- I asked for cream instead. But the worst of all- the people who had sat down before us, obviously with a young child in a high chair- had left a huge pile of food scraps on the floor. No one had bothered to clean it- and of course I did not notice it until I put my foot in it… which then made my shoe dangerously slippery on the already greasy floor. When I asked for some clean up help… wow- you would have thought that I’d hacked off one of her arms with a blunt knife. The pained look on her face was priceless. Sooooooooo unfriendly. I won’t ever go back. Melbourne is full of great places to eat with gracious staff and owners. Everything is expensive nowadays- but I’ll give my hard earned money to those who deserve it. Not these guys! They seriously need to learn what HOSPITALITY industry means.

Okay... so, excellent coffee. Had a bacon egg roll, very tasty! Staff are really lovely and I enjoy the bench bar to sit at and watch the world float by. But one gripe. Why, on earth, do you only sell croissant’s on the weekend...??? I ask if you this... madnesses! Aside from this. I recommend!

Very good coffee and muffins. Newspapers to read too. Good service, good cafe with window bench which I like. Need another visit for more food to maybe upgrade stars?? Worth a look.

Take away coffee was decent, maybe a little bitter for my liking. Tiny place looks like a run down old school milk bar but is a typical Melbourne hole in the wall kind of gem. I’m sure a sit in experience would have been more memorable. Wouldn’t mind trying again after lockdown.

The food is so overpriced. The portions are small and the quality of food is poor. Abysmal rude service. Staff that treat their customers poorly. I don’t understand all the positive reviews - have tried batch many times over the years, and it’s consistently bad. I was hoping it would get better. Would not recommend, much better options along Carlisle st.

I’m a regular customers there as I worked somewhere nearby. So normally I’ll drop by get a cup of coffee or some breakfast. Today one of the staff, the short blonde hair girl being super rude. She was saying that it was rude to me for not greeting her back today. I normally do greet whoever greet me back but today I’m having a sore throat with no voice. She just assumed that I’m being rude for not greeting back. If you’re having a bad day then keep it to yourself. Everyone have a bad day but at least we keep it to ourselves. It is tough early in the morning and as a customer I just wanna go grab food and head to work, not stopping by at the cafe and getting lecture when your staff don’t even know what am I going through. If I went 10 times without greeting back yes feel free to lecture me, but personally I’m not a rude person. Is just this one day I didn’t greet and your staff ruin the day as in it wasn’t worst enough. Way not considerate enough even though foods is ok. Need better customer service quality. Thank you.

The best cafe in Balaclava! Friendly staff who are interested in your thoughts on the food which is delicious. Great atmosphere and fantastic coffee. Have taken different friends here who all have loved it. Window bench great for watching the world go by. Worth trying to get a table which can be a little tricky in winter during peak times but summer is great on street.
