had the best stay here!!! Very clean and didn't feel cramped in the shared dorms, the receptionist was so lovely. The Bbq was a great deal and was a good deal I highly recommend it. On the first night we checked out other Bars on the street but we went straight back to the bar here, on the second night we came to the bar again and we played an amazing game of Bingo and it was a very good way to meet other travellers that I eventually became friends with.  Also was in the best spot just down the street from the beach and a 5 minute walk into town which was super convenient

Great location and nice staff. Rooms are okay if not spectacular, kitchen is small but clean and functional. Base is great if you have a Base jumping pass, as it's probably worth the $27 equivalent you pay, however at $34 per night normally there are equally good places to stay for less cash. Ultimately good, but very overpriced. Look elsewhere if possible or better, especially if on kiwi experience, buy the jumping pass in advance

I stayed in the hostel for 2 nights and loved it! The cabins are really big and very clean. There’s lots of space for parking if you’re traveling with a car. There’s a bar, big kitchen and common area to hang out. We were here in winter but the room was perfectly heated. Also, the staff is very helpful and friendly! Definitely recommend!

Stayed here over the weekend! Would highly recommend to everyone. Checked into a dorm room which was well equipped and very clean! Its a one minute walk from the water front, The staff were awesome and very helpful with local activities! They have a bar which is a lot of fun! a good chance to meet some cool locals and the drinks were cheap which is always a bonus! All in all a very pleasant experience!

I stayed in a lovely private room for two days while visiting NZ. It was quiet because of the time of year but it was very comfortable and welcoming, and very near to the shops and pier for my cruise. The kitchen was very clean and kitted out with everything too.Rooms: 5/5

Excellent location right on the beach and 10 min walk to supermarkets. Kitchen is clean and well stocked with dishes etc, gets a bit grubby with everyone leaving dishes in the sink but this gets cleaned every night. There's free tea bags in reception and a coffee machine $. Not a place to come if you want a quiet night - it's the recommended hostel for Kiwi Experience and Stray bus and there's a loud bar next to the rooms. For a Base though it's pretty small and much nicer / cleaner than Bases in city centres. In winter prices get reduced. There are outlets inside the lockers in the rooms which are hard to spot, everyone was using the 3 sockets that were under the beds until we spotted them BBQ every night for $12 which is only worth it if you eat meat and want the wine/beer included. I had an 8 bed dorm with an en suite which was clean with decent beds and space for luggage however sharing a bathroom with 8 people there was always people waiting for showers/ toilets in the morning. There's a big lounge with tv and movie selection and free wifi in the lounge between 7am-7pm. This is good if it rains as there's nothing to do nearby in bad weather. The wifi is really slow but you can upgrade $6 for 24 hours. There is a jacuzzi and pool but it is very small and pretty grubby looking see pics

This hostel is amazing. It's impossible to overstate how good it is for the money you pay. Nightly activities in the bar, such as Inappropriate Bingo and Trivia nights. The rooms are clean and well kept, and the beds are so comfy. If I could give this place 6 stars out of 5, I would

JUST WOW... What an experience. From the moment I stepped foot into this magnificent place it felt so welcoming and warm.  From the receptionists being super friendly and helping me out with my travel plans to the little ginger cat brushing against my leg. I knew I choose the perfect place to spend my travels in the north.  Kitchen gets cleaned religiously which was a huge thing for me as I am a clean freak.  Rooms were very accommodating with multiple power sockets and clean and nice room.  The bar... OH THE BAR... the amount of fun I had at the Pipi Patch was nothing short of liquid epicness! Not only did i win pong two tournaments in a row haters gonna hate but had a great time interacting with all the patrons!  Overall my experience staying at Base Bay of Islands was all and more I thought it would be.  Definitely coming back soon!

I absolutely LOVED my stay at the Pipi Patch!  My room was clean, had it's own fridge and even a little kitchen corner to make some tea. Besides the room, the general atmosphere in the hostel was absolutely amazing. We started off our Paddy's day weekend with the BBQ which was super yummy and some drinks at the onside bar. They even offered green pints fitting to the occasion - BRILLIANT! Besides that, the hostel is only a 1 minute walk away from the beach - I'd call that a premium location! I can only highly recommend staying at Base Pipi Patch!

Had a double room. Very comfy bed. Small kitchen that was well furnished. Nice staff member. BBQ was very tasty. Nice common area. Main kitchen is well furnished as well. They are close to everything: countdown, liquor shop and the wharf. Clean room and common area. If you are in Paihia for a few days I would totally recommend.
