It is open to students and staff of all beliefs and backgrounds, and outlines in its mission statement a commitment to "the pursuit of knowledge, the dignity of the human person and the common good".ACU was founded from Catholic tertiary institutions that had been training teachers and nurses since the mid-19th century. It is now globally connected, with a relationship to more than 190 universities and educational institutions around the world as well as being part of a global network of Catholic universities.ACU has an increasing involvement in research and has seven new research institutes aligned with the university's four priority research areas: theology and philosophy; health; education; and the common good and social justice.HistoryAustralian Catholic University was opened on 1 January 1991 following the amalgamation of four Catholic tertiary institutions in eastern Australia: Catholic College of Education Sydney, New South Wales Institute of Catholic Education, Victoria McAuley College, Queensland Signadou College of Education, Australian Capital Territory These institutions had their origins in the mid-1800s, when religious orders and institutes became involved in preparing teachers for Catholic schools and, later, nurses for Catholic hospitals. Through a series of amalgamations, relocations, transfers of responsibilities and diocesan initiatives, more than 20 historical entities have contributed to the creation of the university.

I visited ACU Brisbane today. Having positive experience at ACU Health Clinic - very helpful and friendly receptionist (Sharon). I look forward to studying in ACU in the future.

I studied speech pathology in Brisbane and was pleasant to everyone the whole time. As soon as I mentioned that I had Autism I was treated like an outcast. They blocked me from posting on facebook and ignored all my complaints.

I personally still think ACU is the best university for studying Nursing & Midwifery after comparing with other uni in QLD. ACU is really organised, so do all the staff in ACU. Email system is always efficient and always reminds you uni event schedule (e.g enrolment, marks, course completion, clinical placement...etc). Somebody who works in ACU can always answer your questions about any uni issues rather than tossing you around not like typical UQ. Although, assessments can be annoying and placements are longer than other uni, it is the best practice to improve students and future nurses' quality and skills :)

Not much for amenities around campus. Some of teaching style by certain academics were rude, even when they were wrong. Left for better institution.

I graduated from ACU with a distinction and I can testify that it's a great place to study. I had wonderful lecturers and a very good administrative support from the international office in Brisbane campus. ACU is not a place to mock around. You must be very focused, studious and hardworking. The lecturers are there to support you every step of the way.
