I had a very bad experience with Ken at Artiany Jewellers, Annerley. I asked him to replace batteries on two watches and give me a quote on repairing a third, a wind-up watch that was not working. Ken ruined one watch and did not quote on or return the wind-up watch until I made a fuss. When I went back on the day agreed to collect my watches with the replaced batteries, they were not ready and Ken quickly finished the work while I waited. Three days later, on the first day I wore one of the watches, I noticed that the numerals on one watch had started to blur and there was moisture inside the face. The ink on the numerals ran until they couldn't be read any more. When I looked at the back of the watch, it was clearly uneven - it hadn't been replaced properly and moisture had gotten into it. Ken denied this and claimed it had nothing to do with his work, the issue had occurred because the watch was old. He said it could not be fixed (which is probably right, but he made no attempt to do anything even to put the back of the watch in properly). I then asked for the return of the watch he was quoting on. He'd had it over a week at this point. He said it wasn't there, he had given it to someone else. I pointed out that he had told me that he did all his work himself and I hadn't authorised him giving it to anyone else, and no work was to be done anyway until I authorised him to go ahead on a quote (which he still did not have). He would not tell me who this mysterious person was or where my watch was. He told me this was "for security". I told him I would be back the next day to pick up the watch. When I attended the next day Ken made me stand outside the shop (stinking hot day) knocking for 20 minutes before he let me in - he was behind the counter the whole time. As other reviewers have noted, he has a strange arrangement where he keeps his shop door locked. When he did answer the door, he immediately began to shut it in my face and simultaneously roll down his security shutter. I asked him for my watch and he eventually gave it to me (I had my foot in the door so he couldn't close it, which is the only reason I got it, I think). Note, I am a 50yo woman employed by an office in the area. I was wearing business attire and I stand 5-foot-nothing and weigh 45kg. I am the least threatening person in the world, so I do not understand Ken's strange behaviour. Also, I work in the same street and there are no security issues which necessitate the locking of front doors during business hours, so I do not understand that either. But in any case, his work is sub-standard.
