The staff was very friendly when we picked up the vehicle, unfortunately dropping it off was a different story. The vehicle was what the photographs showed and what we expected. But we booked and paid online and were surprised to find out that $210 extra charges applied when picking up the vehicle. Drop off times are way too early in the day, we had to book 7 days to be able to go away for 6 days. Also no pick up the night before is allowed so you lose half a day on the first day when picking up the vehicle already. The biggest surprise was that you have to clean the vehicle yourself unless your happy to part with another $75 on top of the extra fees. At the end we effectively paid $200 per day instead of the advertised $135 from when we booked online! This was the first and last time we rented a camper van from Apollo or any other rental company that operates this way.

We had the WORST experience ever with Apollo Motorhome ! Rude team and not professional at all. we rented for the first time a camper van and nobody helped us with all the questions that we had during the introduction process. it's a shame to be treated like that when you pay a so expensive camper van as we did. our only concern was to take care of the camper van during our trip, that's why we were waiting for explanations. But Wenke, the lady who was in charge about our file, had just one thing important in mind: close the office at 4pm and go back home. I do NOT recommend this company at all! we are clients and we paid for a service which was not completed. so if you want to avoid to start your next holidays in bad conditions, just stay away from this company.

I finally got the time to write the review on Apollo Campers. So, this is our experience with Apollo. Their head office is based in Brisbane Australia, so if you have any trouble, they’ll put you through to someone in Australia! We’ve rented a campervan with Apollo at the end of October 2017 for about 3 weeks for $4000. First of all, I never wanted to rent a campervan with Apollo considering the bad reputation on the web so that’s why we went for “hippiecampers” when nothing else was available. Bad choice cause in the end it is the same company that is in charge or the campervans. As we arrived at the Auckland branch to pick up our van I already had a bad feeling, the office was really dirty and unorganized, the staff was not too friendly and seemed to be overworked. Our pickup time was at 10h00 am and we finally got our campervan around 13h30! The only problem was, that the campervan, who supposedly came from the cleaning, was really dirty and smelled terribly moldy! When we mentioned the smell, we were told that its most certainly the product used for the cleaning and the smell will be gone by the end of the day. So, we spent one night in that campervan, the first and the last! In the morning with the humidity the smell only got worst. I directly called the Apollo Helpdesk to tell them about our problem in order to exchange the campervan. Unfortunately, we were not being taken very seriously. First, they told us they would check for Campers, then they didn’t have campers left for that day. Our travelling plans didn’t facilitate the exchange. So, two days later we got a call from Jay, leading us to belief, that we are about to get a new camper the next day. He texted us the pickup address. We were so happy that we were finally about to move on from this stinky campervan. The next day we went to the address Jay texted us, and oh shocker, they sent us to a mechanics to check the campervans battery!! They simply decided that the smell must come from the battery and that we are exaggerating! After I don’t know how many phone calls and also the fact that we have missed already a few points on our program (the drive to the mechanics took us one hour each way), we decided to not lose any more time! After another few phone calls and Apollo telling us that they cannot exchange the van, I told them we need to do something because we cannot breathe in that van. They sent us to a cleaner ! So again, we had to make a change of plans and loose hours for the cleaning. The cleaner told us, we were not the only once, it happened more than once. After the cleaning the moldy smell seemed to be gone…. But the cleaning products smelled so strong, we weren’t able to sleep in the van that night…so again a motel room… the next day we checked the van, and unfortunately the moldy smell came back, less strong than before, but you could still smell it… so we finally got an arrangement with Samantha, our contact (her office was in Brisbane Australia), that Apollo would pay for our motel rooms, max 120.00. We were really disappointed that we had to go through all that trouble. We were looking forward to 3 great weeks with our campervan and the tent we brought with us for our trekking tours, in the end we had to go find a room almost every night and had to use our campervan like a car. And for that we payed $4000! A bit expensive in our opinion. We’ve returned the campervan to the Christchurch branch, pretty nice office and lovely stuff compared to the Auckland branch. The staff was aware of our problem (you should have seen their faces when we showed them the pictures of the van), the returning procedure was quick and we got a refund for our motel rooms. We even got a small compensation of $399.- yeah not even $400.-, $399.-! for the whole trouble we went through and the nerve it cost us, not too much! We definitely advice against renting with Apollo! And we highly recommend Apollo to clean their campers before renting them to customers and to take their customers more seriously!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! It is necessary to share my all experience as I have never faced such a terrible customer service. We rented Apollo motorhome in Christchurch on 9th of March. At the office we had the worst customer service experience ever. The lady who was making the contract for us didn’t give us a second to say anything, she was speaking louder when you were trying to ask or comment something. She spended lot of time trying to upsell products and when I finally had the chance to ask her if there was any package to cover everything as we are interested (I tried to ask from the beginning but she didn’t listen) she came with a package and surprise... was cheaper!! If I would not have asked, I would have paid double for the same service. After this difficult interaction, we went to the motorhome where she explained the parts of the motorhome (because it was our first experience with the product). She explained how to put in and take off the table but because it wasn’t clear for us, I asked her to show me. She struggled, did not succeed so she finally answered that we would have to try ourself later (WHAAAT??).More than the table, we had to find out ourselves for many things. We kept going on presentation still with a very unprofessional attitude. To finish, she gave us a mirror to check on top and under the van In case of previous damages but we actually couldn’t see anything as it was dark. When the check ended , she toId us to get chairs and a table from a depot next the camper van where actually all of the furnitures were broken. She then told us to go check on the other side of the building in an other depot. I pass on other details as I could write lines and lines on the unprofessional and unhelpful service we have been through. During the trip everything was fine with the van but we realised that the awning was broken and the windows were melting water when it was raining so one bed was getting wet during the night, it was not from the condensation that It was actually leaking water from the side of the window. Excepting these malfunctions, the motorhome worked properly and we didn’t have any trouble during the renting. When we went back to the Apollo Office in Auckland to drop off the vehicle, we faced again a terrible customer service. Nobody welcome us with a “ Hello” even if the worker was looking at me in the eyes. I had to step up and say ‘ Hi” to get from the lady a cold “ drop off?”. I answered yes and she put down her head to her computer without saying anything else. I had to ask if i had to seat at her desk as I did not know if she was going actually taking care of that and she just moved her head to say yes. No need to say that she did not ask anything about our trip, if everything had been alright. She only asked if we had any accident during the trip and then the payment of the kilometres with an “you have to pay this quantity”. One more time I had to ask how many kilometres we have done and for a bit more of explanation. We would rent again motorhome as the experience is great but definitely not with APOLLO or any other brand of their company as CHEAPACAMPA, RVSTAR. It worth taking a rental a bit more expensive to At least have a decent costumer service.

We were very satisfied with our brandnew campervan from StarRV/Apollo. We hired it in Auckland and were on the road for 7 weeks. Everything worked fine and once we had a accident they supported us very well, so in the end we lost only one day. If we will travel to New Zealand or Australia in the future StarRV will be our first choice.
