Really great spot to camp. Lots of shade, close to the water, flushing toilets and drinking water available. There was also lots of space between everyone, didn't feel on top of others.
Only thing missing is a hot shower. Otherwise beautiful.
There were only 1 other tent when we were there. It was mid April 2018. The campground was very neat, clean and tidy. Lots of good nooks and crannies there, a cosy overall ground on the island. There are spots for watching the stars above the ocean with the bright Auckland city in the distance. Makes for a romantic setting for lovers and a heartwarming backdrop for most gatherings, I reckon. Toilets are clean and well looked after. There were drinking water fountains but we can't vouch for their safety. There was an outdoor sink stand for personal hygiene and other things too, pretty convenient. No shower and no electricity, so be prepared with whatever to work around the situation if need be. Paying methods are still a bit hassly, but customer service was sweet and helpful.
Had an amazing time swimming and kayaking at the beach, and then collecting pipi's for dinner at low tide. A great base for exploring the rest of the scenery of Waiheke and its vineyards as well. Just be aware the beach is tidal - IE at low tide its mud for a long way. But at mid through to high tide its a great beach with amazingly warm water because of that
The campsite is great and there is a lovely couple from the council who check on you and are very friendly. However NATASHA , Argentinian park ranger is completely rude and acts like a crazy person. She knocks on your window and wakes you up early in the morning!!
Nothing much to do there. However, I haven't been to the camping area, only been to the sculpture park and the beach area. There is a trial the pass that area which sounds good. Maybe that's trail has some interesting parts. I came across the nesting area but I didn't see any anyway.
Great set up, but only 1 female toilet working. Nicely layed out sites.
It was a great pleasure being there as there were hardly any people there and the BBQ area is a great place to chill out. As you can see by the photos, that there is no one on the beach except the odd birdlife
Waiheke needs more than one campground. Quite crowded for NZ. Good toilets and drinking water. Nice views but manky water not a great swim beach.
One of the most beautiful places in the world. Lovely.
