A great destination to visit. We followed the red trail there are few colour coded trails which had lots of good scenic spots, with farm lands, beach and forest. It's not a hard trail, 50:50 hill to flat land ratio I would say. There are trail markers and maps, so it is easy to find your way. We even saw some cute wild rabbits. Parking, washrooms, BBQ grill and benches are available in close proximity to each other in various spots of the park. I would recommend going in morning of a sunny day, so that you have lots of time to enjoy the beauty and click some nice photos before having a BBQ lunch. I saw some people kayaking as well. Also it is a paradise for photographers. Lots of interesting things to snap some clicks.
The most spectacular views. There are BBQs, clean toilets, plenty of car park spots and nice lookouts. Park at the very inside / end of the park and walk for about 3 mins, cross the road which between two hills, you can see the wharf. Best fishing spot too. Walk along the wharf and enjoy the stunning views on both side. How lucky we are living in New Zealand.
Beautiful place, especially with clear and sunny skies. It's quite popular so best to come in early for a parking spot near the beach. Public toilets near the parking, and is quite clean also. Also a nice beach to swim at, but the sand does have quite a lot of stones. Not too much shade along the grassy banks, so best to bring along things that provide shade.
Stunning views, worth the drive out. Next time will defd do the walking tracks. First time here and the place is perfect for a picnic. They have bbq facilities, tables and public restrooms. Water looked good to swim but hopefully next time.
Was surprised as it been awhile since visiting here. But was a lovely day, have put in good clear walking tracks, plenty people swimming, fishing at the wharf & on the rocks.
A multi-activity regional park run by the Auckland Council with horse riding, Mountain biking and walking tracks available. Camping, batch or lodge facilities are available too on prior booking basis. A couple of car parks available at different levels of the road leading to the end point - at Mataitai Bay, Hauraki Car Park, Mountain bike MTB Car Park and Tikapa Moana Car Park. Overflow parking is accessed by the road at the Mataitai Bay information shelter. There are five gas BBQ's at Mataitai Bay and four compost toilets available at Mountain bike MTB car park, Waitawa Disc Golf Course, Hoiho Hub Horse Park and Woolshed. Flush toilets are in main toilet block at Mataitai Bay. Adjoining Waitawa Bay is accessed only by foot, which features extensive views across to the Coromandel Range as appear in one of my photos here. The boat ramp is not operative for boat launching anymore but you can do your fishing there.
First time there..not a large beach but big enough with tables and bbq facilities, toilets were clean. Nice and sheltered maybe windy if an easterly. Lots of walks about if that's your thing! Nice long wharf out to sea if you feel like casting a line. Enjoyed the time especially as Cleveland oyster farm is on the way
Wow - can't believe I've never been there before. Awsome trail running and lots of small beaches. Mataitai has BBQ facilities too. Less then an hour from Auckland CBD. PS keep it a secret :
Beautiful place to spend the day, a real hidden gem. Great spot for fishing too!
Easy 10km Puweto loop track with stunning view of the beaches and islands. On a clear day you can see Coromandel coastlines from the top.
