Annerley Aquarium

Weird in reading the reviews a very different experience to my own. The foreign chap I spoke to seemed completely disinterested in what we were after, not providing any advice on what tanks and fish to look at for an initial setup. Personally I found Christopher at the Pet Barn up the road much better providing all the advice we needed to get a full kit and fish. The selection there was much more limited though.

This was my first visit to Annerley Aquarium and will definitely be my last after seeing the poor condition that the huge fish in the front room was kept in. The fish, a giant Gourami, is seemingly some kind of shop 'pet', although it astonishes me that any pet should be neglected in this way. It can barely turn around in its under-sized tank and during my short visit repeatedly hit the glass with its head. Additionally, the water in the tank was in dire need of a change (probably due to the bio load produced by the fish). I was amazed that an aquarium (which you would presume is passionate about marine life and keeping their animals in good health) would allow for this animal to be kept in this state. Additionally, as a business is this really what you want customers to first encounter on arrival?

Good prices on tanks and supplies. Find out when they're getting new stock if you want something specific because their stock move really fast. Great range of fresh and salt water fish. Great displays.

I have to say how disappointing my experience was .. the man I spoke to was so disinterested I asked questions he’s reply’s when I got one was like pulling teeth. I’ll never set foot in this shop again. I drove the other side of town to Paul’s 110% different experience..
