Comfortable for a short stay, but very quiet.nnPros:n• Friendly and helpful staffn• Excellent security and very clean facilities.nnCons:n• Room Size: The private room is very cramped with limited walking space.n• Social Vibe: The atmosphere was quite cold and disconnected. This place is enormous and very well organised. Staff are friendly and helpful. The place couldn't be cleaner. Great location. Affordable.nnTwo big kitchens, huge lounge, large dining areas, garden, washing line, ample storage, activities on offer etc.nnThis place has no silly rules and Royce and Linda are wonderful people. Royce gets a bad rap on these reviews - Yeah he'll kick out your mates if they're not staying in the hostel. Good on him for doing so. Royce was consistently kind, but plenty of hostel guests are disrespectful.nnWill stay again if in Nelson, cheers!nnLuke injured knee over xmas
If you are looking for an affordable accomodation offering a good location and spacious quarters both in the rooms as well as in the common areas this is your place. Dining area had an interesting vibe, feeling like a shopping mall food court mixed with an American diner. Also, the design and layout is fairly basic, focusing more on functionalism than style. A refreshing change from some of the pretentious hostels that try to be something they are not! Keep things basic and simple while passing the savings on to the traveler!
It honestly baffles me to see some of the reviews describing how the staff can be “unfriendly” and the vibes of the hostel being “unbackpackery”. This is genuinely one of the cleanest, well-organised hostel run by friendly, approachable staff, and I am not being paid to say this.nnI been coming back to this same hostel few times for the last nine years. I stayed here as a teenager, and recently again in my mid twenties. I can proudly say that the hostel hasn’t changed a single bit. It’s the same clean, beautiful place as it was before. Royce is humorous and he does everything he can to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience. He even helps you to organise trips and everything.nnApart from this, the hostel is very spacious. It has a great lounge for socialising, and pleasant outdoor space, and TWO very well maintained kitchen spaces with see-through fridges. Showers are awesome. Water pressure is nice. Walls can be little thin, but that’s New Zealand. There are private saunas for one or two persons. Laundry units for affordable prices. $4 for drying and washing each Bunk beds in the dorms are really steady, you hardly hear creaks.nnIt’s also right in the town centre, and right next to the carpark where the region’s biggest farmer’s market takes place every Saturday morning. Could not recommend more. I hope I can come back again soon!nnThanks to the team!
Great place with clean rooms, comfy beds, very clean facilities and a very cool owner Royce Highly recommended if you are staying in Nelson!
