I've been living in the south island for 11 years now and I can quite confidently say I've probably stayed in half the hostels on the island, plus a few on the north Island. This was absolutely the best I've ever stayed in by a long shot. Comfy, quiet beds in warm rooms. Friendly, accommodating staff who do a real job of helping generate a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The pudding ever night is such a a wonderful thing! I didn't have any myself, but I'd always make sure I was downstairs when it was being served because it brought everyone in for some wholesome time and good chats. I stayed two weeks while I was looking for a new flat and didn't have a single bad night. I highly recommend!!
I had a really lovely stay here the whole hostel vibe was really friendly & lovely & the guy who worked there called Luke, was really helpful, knowledgeable & nice. The rooms were nice & it was great to have an actual bed & not a bunk bed. Also the chocolate pudding & icecream every night was so delicious! I'd highly recommend staying here when you're in Nelson
First stay in a Backpackers in many years, but I had a great one-night stay here. I booked a queen single and the room was clean, comfortable, and affordable. Great vibe in the common rooms and the shared kitchen was awesome.
I was trapped here for three days during a severe rainstorm, and absolutely loved it. Sitting in the cosy living room by the fire, watching the rain, reading books from the swap-it shelf, and chatting to the lovely staff was a highlight of my trip. And of course the choc pudding. So much choc pudding. 10/10 would be stuck here during a flood again.
I only stayed for two nights but loved it, very friendly people, nice atmosphere, free chocolate pudding : there’s also a piano, guitars and hammocks, a great place to rest and get to know people
