Woolworths Avonhead

I had very unfortunate experience today at this store. My son who's 5 year-old and I went shopping this morning. Everytime my son enters the supermarket he grabbed 2 mandarins from the free shelf. When we reached at the cashier, the old asian lady with a big glasses told me that bringing two fruits out is not allowed. She added that the fruit is only to be eaten inside the store as it helps the children to distract by eating while the parents are doing shopping. I haven't heard that kind of policy, she then told me to read the notes on the wall. Her tone was condescending and in a rude way. I am an asian decent myself, imagine if I was Kiwi, Would she told me off? Part of me thought it was racial profiling. I kept my composure but my son was already distressed and returned the 2 mandarins. He was traumatised citing he doesn't want to come back. I've been a patron of this store for 15 years. I came back after one hour to have conversation with the manager, She listened to my concerns with direct eye contact and feels sorry for what have happened. Nonetheless, Most of the staff member at this branch are very helpful and approachable.

I spent six weeks in Christchurch and this was my go to grocery store during that time. It’s a wonderful local neighborhood store with very friendly employees a nice selection though it is a little bit smaller than the larger Woolworth’s.

Bought an iced coffee flavored milk there which all of them have a reduced price sticker. After drinking it I felt really unwell within an hour, headache, nausea, cramping and diarrhea. I even couldn’t walk or sleep with my stomach pain. Very disappointed, emailed the customer care team and they felt like I don’t care at all.

I live near this supermarket and am always surprised at how rude the staff are. Several times they refuse to take things out of the basket at checkout asking me to take them out and then insist I take the basket back to the rack. It sounds petty but the way they ask is rude and expectant and their general attitude outside of this really unfriendly. They all look super unhappy to be there
