Waiheke Backpackers Hostel

Insanely gorgeous view from the front lawn. The beach is stunning and a 5min walk down from the hill that the hostel sits on. Staff were fun. Rooms were very clean, open, and bright. Toilets and showers were separated, with each shower in it’s own stall with a bench, hooks, and tons of room to put your stuff. All in all, great vibes. Certainly recommend!

I speak for myself. I give them 5 stars out of 5 stars because everything added to the experience. When my mother told us we were staying at a hostel, the rest of the family were a bit anxious. But for me, everything went up from there. For one thing, I only shared a room with my younger brother, and not with a lot of other people. This gave us a sense of privacy. And autonomy and independence from our parents. I got to know the staff on a personal level. Which was fantastic, to give an immersive experience. We had the privilege of enjoying the birthday party of Amy, one of the key staff members from Belgium. We also had the joy of celebrating the jubilation of the Argentine guests and staff members at their qualification for the FIFA World Cup Finals at Qatar. And to see English and Germans and everyone else get along wonderfully was certainly a blessing. When I didn't realise I was supposed to bring my own towel, Jake, one of the staff helpers from Southern England kindly lent me a towel. And when I needed an extra bag to keep my dirty laundry separate from my other luggage, Amy kindly gave me a bag. I was blessed to enjoy British, German, Argentine, Swiss/Hebrew cuisine and make a lot of friends. I was also blessed with the opportunity to share a graduation celebration with a very small highschool from Christchurch at the local beach and at the hostel. The hostel owner wants me to celebrate Christmas with them, but I might be at work. Anyway, I had a great time. I can't promise that everything will line up for the next guest. But that was my experience, and this is my review, and this is how I justify my rating of 5 stars out of 5 stars in every category.

I’ve been traveling for more than 4 months now mostly using hostels and this one is so far the best one. It is super clean, everything look new, the location is great, the owner gives hundreds of tips and the price is very cheap. I will highly recommend this hostel not only for the backpackers but also for anyone who want to spend time in this beautiful island without paying a fortune while getting good service.

The most amazing view I have ever had for an hostel! The outdoor area is just perfect to chill in the bean bags or hamacs, and bonus there is a BBQ. Bathrooms are huge with a private sink, small bench, hooks, with a big shower with so much pressure. Kitchen is big with everything you need. Rooms are standards. Staff is perfect too, really helpful and smiling. It was just a pleasure to stay, highly recommended.

I had an awesome 3 months stay. The staff were outstandingly super friendly and accommodating, especially Kim and Roz. It's close to everything, the beach just down the hill, sunsets and a beer in the evening. Amazing!!

Best hostel iv stayed at in New Zealand. Clean facilities, quiet area and the most awesome view of Onetangi Beach. Roz was super friendly and let me check in early after along morning traveling from gizzy .... such a life saver. Rooms are quiet small but hey with a great beach below and friendly guests there you'll only be in there to sleep anyways. I look forward to my next stay.

Loved staying at this hostel. Its really clean and is kept clean. I found the staff really friendly and helpful. The bunk beds are comfortable and room to put your bags and hang a few things up. I enjoyed sitting outside eatting our breakfast and looking at the great views of the sea. Highly recommend staying here

Wonderful hostel! It's far from town, but if you need to unwind in a quiet place, it's perfect. Beautiful beach with outstanding views. Very clean; great showers, kitchen & excellent staff! Perfect ending for my month in NZ!

Me and my friend stayed here for two nights, in a private room. The hostel staff is very friendly and was always there to help. They have a huuge kitchen with everything you need to cook a meal and an espresso machine! They have a big outdoor area too, with benches and tables. And grills outside that can be used!! Since the hostel is located on top of a hill it has a great view down to the sea level. And the wineries are just a few hundred metres away.

How was my stay? Well - it was meant to be a stay but as we reached the hostel & went to open the door - the hostel was shut & had been shut for awhile. Bit puzzled about this when I was able to make the booking & a deposit was taken from my account. I get that mistakes can happen & it’s all about the recovery, right? - 6 Months later & all we got was an apology. Extremely disappointed.
