My husband and I stayed for 2 nights here before flying off to Queenstown. Though it was a short stay, I must say the valet service was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and professional. The only downside to it for us is that it is more of a corporate hotel more than a leisure hotel. Thumbs up to the cleanliness of the hotel as well. Overall, it has been a good stay. The positive energy of the staff, especially the valets and concierge was absolutely great. Thumbs up to them. Rooms: Very clean and modern
Good location in central Auckland. Rooms are good but feel dated, particularly around connectivity. Clientele is a mix of business types and gamblers - make your own judgments there. But the level of service has declined significantly. For example. The restaurant and bar were both closed at 8pm on a Wednesday night. That’s just unacceptable for a “full service” hotel. There are better options in Auckland.
We enjoyed our stay at Sky City Grand in Auckland. Wonderful breakfast with plentiful espresso drinks, fruits, yogurts, muesli, eggs, breakfast meats, cheeses, breads, and other baked goods. Room was quiet, neat, and tidy. Housekeeping did a great job daily. Room service was prompt and friendly. Concierge is knowledgeable and helpful. The location was ideal for us. Walkable to great shopping, restaurants, museums, etc. I would stay here again without hesitation. My only gripe is that the valet is $55 daily while other 5-star hotels in the area charge less.
Currently staying here, visiting from Canada and have 3 days in Auckland at the beginning and end of our trip. Was really looking forward to a 5 star hotel treat and have been disappointed, decided to change our plans for our final 3 days in Auckland and stay at a different hotel because of this experience. Upon checking in I presented my reservation confirmation that showed I had purchased the enhancement of breakfast included per night, 3 separate employees stated that it was not included but merely an option. After an email response confirming that I did pay for that package it was updated for our reservation, had I not taken the extra initiative it would have been an additional $160 expense that I had already paid for with this booking. The room requires some love with stains on the carpet and dust and dirt visible immediately upon walking into our room. The mini fridge door is busted and there was someone else’s previously opened and used milk in the fridge. This was taken care of after a call down to reception however, gives a great impression that it is not clean. Disappointing. Regular expected items like robes and slippers were not in the room, we had to call to request these as well. I must say the customer service at the East day spa and the luggage desk is incredible. The gentlemen at the luggage desk were very kind, patient and accommodating while taking our luggage but also friendly and had great banter while we discussed why we are here in Auckland. Very impressed with this level of customer service. The pool is nice, the gym is gorgeous. The fresh flowers throughout the main spaces in the hotel are a nice touch. Overall for a 5 star hotel i am disappointed and will not be returning in the immediate future - we have changed our plans to stay elsewhere. There is a standard of expectation that comes with the price tag and the reputation of a 5 star hotel, we treated ourselves for this trip and this was not it. Very disappointing.
Disappointed. I booked a king grand deluxe room with harbour view on December 26-28, 2022 for my and my wife's 25th wedding anniversary. However, the most dominant view of the room that's given to us was a construction crane. The picture window was also dirty and badly needing a good clean on the external side. This makes it not appealing to look outside. The room is also badly needing a refresh/renovation. The walls are already dirty and have lots of damage. The furnishing are tired and dusty. The carpet looks like it has not been shampooed for years. The mini bar door is falling off. The bathroom door is chipped at the bottom. The vanity tap handle is also falling off, making it difficult to operate. For the price that I paid, I expected better. The hotel's main restaurant, Gusto, was always closed. It's only open for breakfast and snacks. On our second night, we tried the in-room dining. The food was average. Overall, it was really a disappointing experience. For a hotel that's classified as 5 star, this should not be the case.
Staff are always friendly. Breakfast is delicious, comfortable beds. 3yr year in a row staying for a birthday weekend and definitely keeping the tradition. Love staying at The GrandRooms: 5/5
We consider ourselves low key and easy going/easily pleased but have to share our lack of 5 star experience from basic expectations of a 5 star hotel room. The room was super dusty. Thick layer of dust on cups and glasses. I had to flush out the coffee machine myself too because it looked so dirty and it was the first flush came out muggy. The remote to the TV was missing. We asked reception but was questioned if we looked properly. Then a replacement arrived some time after. The new remote was intermittent. We needed a staff member come and check and fix it which was working after a reset of the TV etc at 11pm when we were trying to habe a quite one after going out for late dinner. The AC was temperamental. We couldn't change the temperature and were freezing for a long time. Someone came to check but couldn't fix it so sent for maintenance man who bought a helper. He said it was too old and hard to manage the buttons. When he left we felt too hot but changing the temperature was a challenge. The bathrobes caused itchiness we had to take both off! Very dodgey! We had to take antihistamines, that's how bad! The bedsheets were stained everywhere. The spa pool was out of order. When we asked Staff about the spa they said "it will be fixed tmr no apology or anything ". We came here specifically for the 5 star experience but absolutely hated having staff needing to come in and out of the room consistently to fix things. We're parents looking to get away but this was far from a relaxing experience. People coming in and out of the room fixing things and no spa! No bath in room we expected as was called an accessible room but this made it worse. When we checked out we were overcharged and had to call to get it fixed. Despite clarifying at the front desk before leaving. We were being hurried off! We've decided to stay elsewhere for our next getaway/staycation. Very disappointed!
Checked into the hotel for 5 nights. Upon entering the foyer 8:00 p.m., void of any other guests at the time, wheeling our large suitcases, we passed the baggage handler desk and, further on, the concierge desk, both of which were manned by the respective personnel. We received no acknowledgement or greeting upon entering and no offer of assistance with our luggage. There was no welcome from the receptionist other than "Can I help you?" Routinely checked us in and gave the impression of being disinterested. Again, there was no offer of baggage assistance, directions, or any other cordial description of the hotel or services. We were simply handed the room cards, told our room number, and sent on our way. I had to backtrack and ask in what direction the lifts were located. The room was bland, dated, and well worn. The bathroom and fittings were reminiscent of a country 2-star hotel, with barely enough room to manoeuvre in the shower cubicle. The ‘king-size’ bed was disgraceful for a supposed five-star hotel. Each side of the mattress had discernible compression indentation, as well as the comfort of a cheap, beyond its use-by date, innerspring. The sheets were gritty and not of the soft high thread count you would expect, and the pillows were completely void of any support as they were thin and flat. I called housekeeping to request a firm pillow but got no response. I called reception and had to endure a recorded message about the virtues of hotel and casino. I rang a second time and managed to rouse the attendant, from whom I requested the pillow. After an hour wait; no pillow. As this was a holiday in Auckland, we did not want to have it spoiled by sub-standard accommodation, and so we checked out of the hotel the next morning. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone considering a five-star luxury hotel. Certainly not at the rate they charge! Our substitute accommodation was at the magnificent, "truly" five-star 'Park Hyatt Hotel'. With a far better location, a warm and welcoming environment, and a beautiful establishment... refer to my review.
The hotel is great. Great room, service and location. The room was very clean and the staff was very nice. The only thing that we didnt like was the room service dinner we had there, the steak was super tough and instead of getting a med rare steak it was almost rare but overall our experience was great.Rooms: 5/5
Dirty bathroom and floor with massive wad of hair in the drain. I noticed this the next morning when I went to shower and kindly asked it be cleaned while I was at my meeting. Get back to the room later in day and hasn't been done. Never going to return. Lost faith in the hygiene here. Food also super average and small portion. Remote doesn't work properly, TV won't chromecast though they say it will. Come on Grand....... Food & drinks: Eat elsewhere if vegan
