The Gateau House

I usually get my cakes from the Queen Street store, but also ocassionally stop by the Newmarket store to get some slices after work on my way back home. The cakes are always so creamy and fluffy, and I love that they use freah cream instead of butter cream. I used to really enjoy the cream puffs they sold before lockdown, but they don't seem to have it anymore so I wish they would bring it back one day. But overall, 10/10 cake and the workers there are generally nice :

It was written on the store & website that they are open til 7pm on regular days… I rushed all the way to Newmarket after work to buy a cake and they were already closed, blinds down at 6:42pm! It’s clearly written on the store window that you guys operate til 7pm, should change it to 6:30pm or something if you guys aren’t even going to be open til 7pm!!! Just wasted my time.

I ordered a tiramisu cake yesterday.The ice in the cake didn't melt, it didn't taste at all, There's no taste of Tiramisu, I can't order another cake from here. It tastes awful. The cakes here are getting worse and worse. Please don't buy this one again. This cake tastes terrible.

Came by to pick up a couple of mini cakes for a birthday. They were cleaning up because they were closing but I was still able to buy the cakes. Tried the Almond Praline Mousse and the Chocolate Delight. Both were nice but tasted almost sameish.

Bought a Coffee Walnut cake. Tasted like cardboard....stale. Unbelievable that cakes like this are even sold for $60. The decorations are deceiving. Do not recommend buying in store.

As a regular customer due to big family, the Gatea cake has never failed us, except once given the wrong cake. One of the great advantage of The Gateau House is easy accessibility, good quality control and never failed for last-minute customer like me XD Here is my top five preferred favors: Green Tea Fresh Cream Gateau, Mango Fresh Cream Gateau, Kumara Fresh Cream Gateau, Fruit Supreme Gateau and Chocolate Mousse with Sprayed Chocolate. Beware!! Beware!!, avoid this place at any cost, reasons... Many, stale cakes, no taste, I ordered mango cake slice and tiramisu.... Dry cake sponge in mango cake... No taste felt like kept in freezer and took out in level 3 and kept in the cabinet for sale... No doubt they were giving everything on 50%discount. Tiramisu has no taste, no moist dry as sand.... Please avoid. Please avoid if you love good cakes and don't want to get dissipoint with this shop.

We placed a cake order here at the Newmarket branch cuz we happened to be in the area last Sat the 19/11, to be picked up today 26/11 at the Henderson branch. Paid for it and got a docket. Went in to the Henderson branch this afternoon to pick up the cake and they said they didn't have our order basically the Newmarket branch never gave them our order... luckily they had another one on display, same cake and size as the one we ordered, but imagine if they didn't.. really bad on Newmarket's part to have forgotten it. Hope this doesn't happen often. Can really ruin an occasion as people usually order these for special occasions. Just imagine ordering a cake a week early, goes in all excited to pick it up, only to be told they didn't have it cuz they had forgotten it
