The Fat Farmer

We recently visited The Fat Farmer for a work Christmas function and loved their shared set menu, so we came back today — just the two of us — for a birthday dinner. It absolutely restored our faith in eating out in Palmerston North.nnThe staff are friendly and accommodating, and the food is fantastic. It’s a bit like upmarket tapas: you order a range of dishes and they arrive as they’re ready, perfect for sharing and enjoying together.nnThe soy-braised “Angus Pure” beef cheek was tender, falling apart and full of flavour. The rice cracker–crusted market fish was perfection, with preserved lemon mayo and crispy shredded potatoes making the ideal accompaniment. The Pine Park broccolini with whipped goat’s cheese was also absolutely delicious.nnEnjoying it all out on the deck on a warm evening made for a truly lovely dinner. We’ll definitely be back.

Had a wonderful meal with great service. The servicing are the perfect size for sharing.nThe rice cracker crust market fish served with crispy agria potato and preserved lemon mayo was simply beautiful. The side of pine park broccolini with whipped goats cheese and toasted almonds was nice. The soy braised angus pure beef cheek with Asian herb salad and fried shallots was melt in your mouth and so tasty. We will definitely be back again.

Refreshing to find this restaurant after living in Palmy for a while. Their menu and beverage selection where varied and covered most options. The food arrived on the table in a well thought order considering the dishes were all ordered at the same time. Highly recommended

Absolutely fantastic! Friendly from the second you walk in the door! We could not make up our minds so asked the staff to pick for us, let's say we were definitely pleasantly surprised! Nice hearty food cooked well nothing you don't need on it, well seasoned. Very warm and inviting best place I've eaten in Palmy by far!

Food was AMAZING!! Couldn’t fault our mains at all, there were 7 in our dinner party so ordered just about everything to share. Highlights for us were the beef cheek, chèvre, crispy chicken. Those that still had room for dessert were underwhelmed, need some work there. Service was top notch.
