We stayed on the night of December 13, 2024, and found the check-in process to be straightforward, though not quite at the level expected of a 4-star hotel. However, the room, bathroom, and amenities were clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. As it was a Friday night, the bar was lively and bustling. Unfortunately, the pool closed at 9 PM, which we felt was too early and prevented us from enjoying it. Despite this, we had a pleasant experience overall and would love to return for a 2-3 night stay in the future to fully enjoy the hotel and explore New Plymouth.
The hotel was absolutely fabulous, maybe I lucked out with a nice view of the pool, although workmates got a view of the sea. Regardless, was really nice to wake up in the morning during spring light. The coffee pods in my hotel room aren’t the greatest, so save yourself and head down to the buffet for some better coffee! The bed was super comfy too. Speaking of buffet, definitely worth the buy and gin and tonics did $10! Crazy! How good! Great vibe and clean and always always refilling food!
Great place to stay. We had 3 nights there. Only downside was the parking. Trouble was if you went out for a drive anywhere, when you returned there wasn't anywhere on the grounds to park, so on 2 occasions had to park on the street. I must say there is some parking that you can pay for about 10 parks not sure but already paying for accommodation so thats not happening. Would have definitely given 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack of parking. Rooms fantastic, Service fantastic, Amenities fantastic, dining and bar fantastic, but parking not so good. Cheers RH
We booked The Devon Hotel – New Plymouth for three nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and explore New Plymouth with our two children. Leading up to our stay, I had several conversations with the front office team via email and phone to ensure everything was organized, including a special anniversary treat like flowers and decorations.nnWhen we checked in, the staff assured us everything was prepared. But when we entered our room, we were extremely disappointed. The room was right next to an under-construction area, and the noise was unbearable. Even worse, the room was completely different from what we had booked—it lacked the advertised bathtub shown in the pictures.nnAfter a long back-and-forth with the front office, they agreed to move us to a new room but only the next day. On the following morning, instead of letting us enjoy our plans, we were forced to wait until 11:00 am for the room transfer. This disrupted our day entirely.nnTo add to our disappointment, there was no acknowledgment of our anniversary. Despite being promised special arrangements, nothing was done. When we raised these issues at checkout, the staff didn’t even bother to apologize or provide any feedback.nnBy this point, we were so frustrated that we canceled our third night. This experience fell far below expectations, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a smooth and enjoyable stay.
We stayed last night in 875 and it was super clean thanks Mikaela. The room had comfy beds and pillows. A nice view of the garden and pool.nA suggestion would be to provide a bottle of water in fridge seen we could only fill jug in the bathroom.nAlso warning that you have to pay for parking would be good.nThe food at the bar was a long wait and then came cold and also not correct.nBut overall we had a nice stay and would stay again. Thank you.
