A clean, friendly old style pub. The staff were warm and obliging. Room, beds and kitchen very clean. Enjoyed the company of other travellers also staying. A great atmosphere. The bar food was disappointing, no love in that food. But everything else was great.nJudy McGee
The Brown Pub is a charming local pub. It has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and the locals of Methven are very welcoming. They have a great selection of beers and food on offer. There is sometimes live music and a fireplace to sit by - it's simply a place you want to come back to with friends to spend a nice evening :
Sunday drive from Christchurch for a bite to eat.nNot a great experience.nFood was terrible. Just ordered bar snacks but couldn't finish due to it being so salty. Ordered I think it was called the bar basket or something like that. Had hardly nothing in it. Picture added is what came in it. They had salted it for me instead of me salting my own food. It was uneatable. Sausage was disgusting. Would not recommend this plate to anyone. No paper towels on the table or cutlery, plates were out down without a comment from staff. Left 90% on the plate and left.nAlso premix coke was flat.
Really bad experience when we wanted to have a nice evening at the pub. The bar woman with the red hair was rude and grumpy. It seems she didn’t want to serve us, because we are from abroad. My friend and I are both 26 and she asked us for our ID in an really unfriendly way. Also when we ask what kind of beer they are offering she was rolling her eyes. Can’t recommend the pub for traveller who come by to have a nice evening there, seems traveller are not welcome here.
I thought this place was great value for money and in a great location. We were here in the depths of winter and our room was cozy warm - no heating required- with retrofitted double glazing that helped block out car/ noise from the street. Our room was of very modest size but had a large comfortable bed with nice clean cotton sheets. It was certainly a no frills experience but had a well equipped and clean kitchenette for the guests to use as well as a lounge small and overstuffed and an outside veranda. Bathrooms were really clean shared. Overall would recommend and stay here again.
