Today, we had the pleasure of observing a contented seal in the midst of its peaceful nap. It's a wonderful location for a leisurely walk, with the gentle shimmer of lights dancing across the endless waves. It's undoubtedly our preferred destination for chill but sunny days.
Wide walkway along the sea parallel to the esplanade. Great views towards Christchurch and North towards Kaikoura on a clear sunny day. There are benches along route to stop and admire the view and toilets are halfway along. At the Eastern edge is a children's splash pool and at the western edge is Sumner beach. Very nice place to visit for a stroll. Places available to access the sea for a paddle. Strong tides so not for very small children. There is an outdoor shower on the western end where you can wash your feet, yourself, or get the dog a drink. Grab an ice cream from nearby vendors, head to the beach or climb cave rock after your stroll.
I’ve been walking this promenade on and off for 35 years. Hasn’t changed much except more dogs being walked on and off their leash. Public toilets are filthy and falling to pieces. Council get your act together and upgrade the toilets.
Good for walking your dog or just plain walking by the sea, smelling the tang of the salty air and working up an appetite.
Always nice to be near the sea for a walk
