This review is for the Bento Bowl Oteha Valley. I ordered the katsu curry chicken large size, paid $20.90.nnFood: Overall the food was cold, the curry portion was extremely small, rice was over-cooked, and the chicken was very tough. Overall rating, I would give a 0.5/5nnService: There are two self-service kiosk machines. The two ladies working in the restaurant were extremely unfriendly. It felt like there was no such thing as “service” at all.nnIf you’re hungry, just buy sushi next door. This was the No.1 worst-tasting bento bowl I’ve ever had in my life.
Of all the disappointments in the Auckland food scene, my recent experience at Bento Bowl Oteha Valley stands out for its sheer audacity. The primary offender? The Karaage Chicken. Anticipating that satisfying, shatteringly crisp exterior giving way to juicy meat, I was met instead with a limp, greasy, and tragically soft piece of chicken. The coating had the dismal texture of a wet paper bag. The most frustrating part is that this is such an easy fix; even a quick 30-second re-fry at home would have transformed it into something craveable. It’s a fundamental failure of kitchen execution.nThis leads to the second gut punch: the price. For what they charge for a single bento bowl, you are well within the territory of a proper, authentic Japanese restaurant. Why would anyone settle for this subpar imitation when you could have a truly memorable meal elsewhere? For the same investment, you could be enjoying impeccable, fresh sushi at St Pierres without the lingering taste of regret.nThe entire meal felt like a cynical transaction, charging premium prices for a product that demonstrates zero pride or understanding of the cuisine it’s attempting to emulate. You’re not just paying for food; you’re paying for the profound disappointment of what could have been. My advice is simple: save your money and your palate. Go literally anywhere else. At least at St Pierres, you know you’re getting what you paid for.
You aren’t there for atmosphere, but food is awesome and service is super friendly. They make it for you if it’s not already made. And open late!! Whoop!! Have been back many times and will again. Great place for good sushi or cooked Japanese food.
Bought a teriyaki chicken on rice with mayo. Portion is enough but it's qutie salty and no other flavour except soy sauce. Place is clean and spacious.
Paid $16 for an instant noodle, kids portion. Can not recommend it at all! The ramen they serve is literally an instant noodle, u can get it for $3 at the supermarket. Worst experience ever! Don't get scammed.
