Had an amazing experience at St. Heliers Bay Bistro! The front beach view is absolutely stunning, the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a good meal. The vibes are super cool and relaxing.nSpecial shoutout to Dayne for the very good service — friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Food was great and the atmosphere top-notch. Highly recommended!
I had the best time at the bistro; such nice staff who made great recommendations. I had the calamari and burrata - so yum! Plus, a delicious flat white. Last time, the burger cured my hangover - I’ll definitely be back for the taste, the views and the vibes.
Been there a few times and, as a local, I feel like I don’t go enough yet!nThe breakfast menu is just amazing, and dinner is always a treat with a beautiful sunset view. Service is always so good, never disappointed. It’s honestly a little gem in St Heliers.
Had such a lovely time at St Heliers Bistro! The food and coffee were amazing, but what really made my visit special were the staff. Bellea and Maria were so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place!!
Absolutely disappointing and upsetting behaviour from staff and management.nIt was Auckland Anniversary Day, and my daughter and I were enjoying some time together. We bought a takeaway cake from the market and then went to St Heliers Bay Bistro’s takeaway coffee area. I explained to the staff member that we had a cake and asked if we could please have a takeaway spoon and two takeaway teas. She said yes, no problem.nAfter we paid and received our tea, another staff member approached us in an absolutely disgusting manner , rude, aggressive, angry, and with a completely inappropriate tone. She told us it was against policy to eat our cake there and that we had to leave.nMy issue is not the rule itself, but the way it was handled. If she had spoken politely, this situation would never have escalated. I explained that we had already checked and were told it was fine. We were also sitting outside on a bench, not in the restaurant area.nA male staff member then came over, asked what had happened, apologised, and told us it was fine to stay and finish our tea and cake.nA few minutes later, another woman approached us and said she was the owner. I politely asked her to please leave us alone as the situation had already spoiled our day. She refused, became furious, kept repeating herself, and would not leave us alone.nWe pointed out that two staff members had told us different things. Her response was that she cannot ensure her staff follow the same rules ,which is completely unacceptable. This is management’s responsibility.nAfter this experience, I checked other reviews and was shocked to see that this behaviour is very common. Many reviewers describe staff, management, and even the owner as rude, aggressive, and attacking customers they do not like, rather than handling situations professionally. This clearly is not a one-off incident.nIf we had been told clearly at the beginning that we could not have our cake there, we would not have bought the tea and would have left immediately. If the owner had apologised and acknowledged a miscommunication, we would have left politely. Instead, the rude and hostile attitude made the situation far worse.nI used to come to this place often. After seeing the true attitude of the people running it, I will never return. It is sad to see how locals are treated and how the once easy-going, welcoming Kiwi hospitality culture is disappearing.nVery disappointing experience.
