Der Metz Restaurant

Der Metz feels like a little slice of Germany. The decor here invokes a humble, cozy abode, and the service is very good as well. In terms of the food, the portions are absolutely huge and are very tasty. The desserts were equally as large, and very filling. Finally, there is a great selection of beers to choose from. I’m personally a fan of Hofbräu.

Always a great dinner here, unique food, huge portions especially the schnitzels.nUnique beers, themed decor and staff uniforms add to the atmosphere, though it is quite cluttered and they seem to have gone for quantity over quality.nThe service is always friendly and they do make you feel welcome.nThey can't always do takeaways so it pays to call first if you're looking for that option.nDefinitely a regular on our list!

First visit but definitely not going to be the last. The atmosphere was great, reminds me of the restaurants over in Europe. Service was spot on, not to pushy but always there when you needed them. The food....AMAZING!!! Schnitzels the size of your head and cooked to perfection and you can get a second one for an extra $5. Deutsche Platte is to die for, delicately cooked pork roast and belly with a succulent gravy and scrumptious dumplingsstuffing.

FastFood Friday and Foodiebumz hit Der Metz in Kohimarama last night and found this was no Bavarian. If you want flashy and westernized you want Bavarian. Der Metz is more homestyle and hits you with larger than life meals most average ppl would have a hard time finishing or an islander would be happy to see . Schnitzels vary with beef, chicken and pork available and a selection of accompaniments. Pork roast and steak were enjoyed and although my pork hock had a harder skin than I'm used to, the inner flesh was tender and juicy. Old mate is adamant the fish was frozen not fresh however he cleaned his plate so hopefully that was at least a pass mark . Apple strudel was delicious as were the ice-cream dishes. 8 diners @ approximately $45 per diner... around par. Great to get out. FYI Bavarian @ Westfield Newmarket is now permanently closed

Nice bayside location and generous sized portions but food in all honest overall decidedly average at best. Waitress was friendly.
