Having been in Wltgn for three days and still needing to eat Malaysian as I usually do when here in this city that boasts a high ratio of these eateries, we ventured out. It was Sunday lunchtime so not all were open rendering us to make an eventual unfortunate choice down some inner city Melbourne type lane. Satay Kingdom Cafe. All four of their concoctions failed miserably. The two fresh juices were watered down or tasted as much. Not enough to dilute the colour, but enough to remove the fresh full fruit flavour. The Rendang was not cooked down enough, an obvious sign being the light colour and shredded coconut still being intact. Not only that, they held back on the spice and other ingredients rendering sic their effort lacking the distinctive sweet aromatic flavours of star anise, cardamon, cinnamon and galangal. So insipid was it you could see water collecting at the base of the food. It should of been a thick type dark juice. And the Laksa even though looking acceptable, it too suffered the same budget constraints of the above described efforts. They went tight on the ingredients that are needed to make a Laksa taste like a Laksa. Instead, it tasted like something prepared at the hospital -you know, where even mashed potatoes taste like water. Malaysian Roti Canai consists of multiple thin layers of flaky light flat bread. This joint's version had no traped air whilst cooking creating pockets between the layers being the Roti trademark of the bread breaking into shards when pulled apart. This is the first Malaysian joint I've come across in Wltgn that has been useless. Very bad luck it was that we happened across it. Malaysian is my favourite, add my anticipation to finally sit down at one, only resulted in elevating my disappointment level to one of extreme annoyance. So much so that I'm now gonna tell them I write this while sitting in the sun at the table.... 5 mins later.... Ha! The chef's from China! That partly explains the botched results.
Food was quite average. The roti canai was a disappointment. Roti not hot and so thick not made then and there. Its mostly cooked from the freezer. The gravy was quite watery and lacked taste. The satay chicken was ok. Nothing spectacular. General tso chicken was good. All in all would not recommend or go there again.
Their Vege Roti Chennai is a simple delight. You get a full roti Jessie’s Roti if I had to guess a bowl of curry soup with vege and a side dish of satay sauce. Delicious and simple. Wonderful to find a meal in the city for $9!
Ordered Satay Kingdom through Menulog and was disappointed when Menulog never delivered my order! On pickup, Satay Kingdom went above and beyond and made me a fresh order, even throwing in a free drink! I am so appreciative, food was great too, don't walk, RUN to Satay Kingdom because they the best <33333Food: 5/5
I had the BBQ pork wonton noodles. The broth was tasty and there were a lot of noodles. The wontons had practically no filling to speak off. Price felt quite high for the food that I got. Note: they only accept cash or eftpos so come prepared
3pm in Wellington and nothing open except for this tiny space which serves noodle salad. A new combo for me but to my surprise was really tasty. And the price is absolutely cheap. Really happy with this new discovery.
Found on the Left Bank off Cuba St in Wellington this iconic dining establishment never fails to deliver excellent tasty food at excellent prices. I spent less for my Roti Chennai Chicken meal than I would have for a meal at McDs and the food is soooo much better. The service is quick and delivered with a smile. Been coming here for more than 15 years, great place!!
Price has gone up. Paid $18.50 for hainanese chicken rice. I can get tastier dishes elsewhere. Cooks are from China so can't cook real Malaysian dishes. The food comes out mostly bland.Food: 2/5
Good food and budget friendly. Kids loved their meals. Lots of flavour and a real tummy filler. Great portions.Food: 5/5
