Went there for lunch on Friday afternoon. Tommy, let me just say, you are one of the best front of house I've had the pleasure of meeting. Your service was attentive, funny, timely and always with a smile. The food, omg so delicious and filling. I had the lamb roast while my lunch date enjoyed the fish Hapuka n chips. We sat in the side room off the main bar. This was nice n quiet, very cute with a great view of the river. I look forward to dining again sometime in the future.
This typical English/Kiwi pub is a well kept Christchurch secret, in a lovely spot down by the River Avon. Met with friendly front if house staff, great local atmosphere just enough time to drink a coffee and have a chat before the food arrived. I have to say this was one of the best Sunday Roasts I have had for a very long time. The lamb was well cooked to perfection and the only reason I was not left wanting more was the portions were more than sufficient. The potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and seasonal vegs all cooked to perfection and the price point great value for money. We will be back for another meal without hesitation Great job guys JabZ
Stopped after a Sunday walk around Hagley Park. Recommend you check what time they open, as we just happened to pass by while they were opening up. Had a lovely Chai latte and a bowl of chips. The wonderful friendly staff even filled up a container of water for our dog, Hunter. Definitely stopping in next time we pass by, especially on a sunny Sunday morning. Kid-friendliness: We were sitting out front and baby was asleep in her pram. Wheelchair accessibility: Flat surface area outside, easy access.
Have the large Sunday roast and share! We had loads of tender lamb, roast potatoes and veges plus broccoli and cauliflower and am enormous Yorkie pudding. Truly scrumptious. Great food, great service, great ambience. What are you waiting for, get yourself here. We are from the UK and we just don't get it like this. Great selection of beers too by the way.
Went for a late Mother's Day dinner and we all loved it! Was a good pub vibe, and there was live folk music as well which we loved. Food and drink were yum! It was my second time here and everyone else's first, and they're all keen to come back again soon! :Food: 5/5
Amazing Sunday roasts!...is what I used to say. Now the quantity is significantly smaller, and somehow more expensive. The gravy on the beef used to be rich brown and full of flavour, and now the limited amount you get resembles water. I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed. Went from being easily my favourite place for a Sunday roast to my blacklist. When politely mentioned staff how over 60% of my plate remained and reasons given, no refund or anything was offered. Unfortunately I won't be back until these roasts resemble their former glory.
After waiting for 20 minutes from the moment we ordered, we had to remind the stuff about our drinks. After another 20 minutes, we got my food but not my partner's. We waited another 10, then I took a bite of my chicken burger and the chicken was undercooked, raw pink. Took it back to the staff with "we think we're going to leave now", received "Sorry, I will charge you just for the drinks." We went here because we had delicious food here before but after yesterday, I am not sure we will come back. Mistakes can happen but ignoring us, serving just half of the meal and in a way that can give one a very serious food poisoning and then basically shrugging when I pointed it out just doesn't feel right.
Definitely nothing like it used to be. Waited a long time for food. Food was below average and not up to their standard. Long wait between meals. The salad was terrible and the burger was dry.
Good selection of beers for an afternoon of drinking and watching the cricket. Clean but worn outside covering. Live commentary could be heard in side but being summer outside music was fine. Inside the bar was clean and tidy. Food served was very nice. Steaks done as asked and platters with fresh deep fried selection. Toilets were clean. Friendly staff.
Great food the blue cod in the pic was some of the best I've had in the South Island and the team that served us had fantastic personalities. The food did take a little long to come out, but the atmosphere made up for that. Would happily return
