Patrick’s Pies Goldstar Bakery Bethlehem

This was recommended as the best pies in NZ so we ended up getting a bunch of pies to go which we ended up eating for days. It’s located in a strip mall so there are a lot of parking spots. At lunchtime on a Sunday, there was a significant queue already but it moved along quickly. Grab a tray, pick stuff from the self-serve area, order some drinks, pay up and you’re done. Pies range from $6-8.

Good pies, but wouldn't make a special trip to try one.nOther bakeries do as good or better.nService is hardly friendly.

Was really looking forward to this place. Grabbed a Steak and Cheese pie and was thoroughly disappointed. Was primarily mince with a few pieces of steak. Lacked flavour, pastry was okay. Can't understand how they won so many awards? Maybe I should've tried one of the award winning pies. Price was reasonable, I'm used to paying $8 for a good pie in the South Island. But for $5.80 it went in the bin.

We actually found this place by accident when we stopped here to find a quick snack for our family.nnWhilst looking for parking, we noticed this pie place because they proudly displayed their awards in front. Winner of the best pies for many years!nnMy wife already ate, so she said I could pick the pies and she'll just have a few bites. As soon as we walked in, we saw a large display of the different pies they had. I picked two of their award-winning ones.nnTheir famous mussel pie and I can't remember the other one because the mussel pie was too good. This is coming from someone that doesn't like seafood!nnFilling creamy and seasoned well, with delicious mussels. The pastry was pretty good too, but not as flaky as we liked. Also, I found them a little stingy with the filling.nnIn saying that, they were the best pies we had in NZ and wish we could try more of their pies.

Steak and pepper quite salty. Think it’s just average pie in NZ decent but the carious flavor are quite good
