JUCY Car Rental and Campervan Hire Queenstown Airport

This place is criminally understaffed and the vans are all very old and not maintained properly. Can't even count the amount of problems we had with our van and with the service. Things like missing door handles, empty gas bottle, broken radio, leaking toilet, barely working fridge, so many other damaged or broken little things I can't remember. There seems to usually be only 1 person working who is constantly drowning and unable to help, wasted countless hours at the depot over the week and a half I had it. I was literally told by staff that as long as the engine is running in lucky. When I asked if they had any newer vehicles they laughed and said the others are all worse this van had 394,000km on it and was 20 years old. Spend the bit extra and go to indie campers or mad campers or literally anywhere else. The only saving grace is that it's a bit cheaper and it's nice to have the sense of community when you see other jucys on the road.

Stay away from this company!!!nIf only we could leave 0 stars…nOur van had black mould inside which is a massive health risk The back of the van was held together with masking tape this fell apart and we had to purchase zip ties and fix it ourselves as the vehicle was too unsafe to drive see photo not to mention the van had nearly 500km’s…As we paid $1200 for 10 days you would think JUCY would provide decent cars! We have sent JUCY 3 emails and have not received a reply! Would not recommend to anyone

We rented a Jucy Chaser from Queenstown to Christchurch and, in hindsight, I wish we’d done the trip the other way around.nnThe Queenstown branch didn’t seem equipped to support us. We were given a Toyota Chaser and asked to sign paperwork without any explanation. The van itself was fine, but we soon discovered there was no spare tyre. When I raised this, I was told they had none available and that I’d be compensated if I got a flat—definitely not reassuring. We were also assured the gas tank for cooking was full, but it was empty when we tried to use it.nnArriving in Christchurch was a completely different experience. The staff were helpful, apologetic, and far more organised. The only downside was that they weren’t running their airport shuttle due to staff shortages, so we had to arrange our own transport.nnOverall, I’d recommend starting your rental in Christchurch and finishing in Queenstown and check over the full vehicle before leaving the carpark.

Wish I could rate zero.nWe booked the Jucy Condo for 4 nights from Queenstown — a complete disaster. First night in Invercargill, no kitchen use. Second night in Te Anau, the sink flooded the van. Turns out the pump was leaking. Called customer service — they told us to drive 2 hours back to Queenstown to swap the van because a replacement Condo was “available.”nnWe changed plans and drove back — only to be told by clueless staff that there was no vehicle available. Their solution? “Take it to a mechanic, but we don’t know how long it’ll take.” So we wasted hours of our trip for nothing and ended up using a broken van for rest of the way.nnTheir apology at branch felt fake and robotic. When we returned the van, no one even asked how our trip was. They Just wanted to clock out and go home as it was already 4pm. Absolutely no accountability, zero care for customer experience.nnThe best part of the trip? Leaving that busted van at their branch. $1100 wasted. Never again.

The van my friend and I hired for a week had multiple issues such as wheels not being aligned, gas cooker not working, all of the dishes were dirty and had food on them, the table pull out was not installed, the van door on the left wouldn’t open from the inside, receiving an empty gas bottle which I paid for and the worst bit was the van rattled and made a lot of noises to the point where we couldn’t hear our music most of the time so I assume the service wasn’t done or the van even checked before we got it. After trying to email to find compensation or even an explanation I have been ghosted all week with no response. Overall a really disappointing and honestly unsafe experience and you get no help from customer service. Also I’ve been emailing them on a seperate email address and had to make a Gmail account just to leave this review to tell other people about the experience because I do not recommend this at all.
