Horse and Jockey Inn

We were in the area for the day and the main reason for choosing this bar was the high chance they would be screening the NFL Playoff.nnWell, the Manager and bar staff made us feel really welcome, putting the game on the projector screen where we sat and had a few drinks over the course of the following three hours or so.nnNothing was too much trouble for the staff and the interior was comfortable and welcoming.nnThe garlic bread was superb, well presented and filling.nnWe didn’t stay in a room, so haven’t rated, but will consider an overnight stay in the future.nnWill definitely be back when we’re down in Matamata next time.

I’ve only rated the room slightly less because we did have a slight muddle - but it was dealt with so politely and quickly. Cannot fault the staff.nnMy partner would have liked an air conditioner in the bedroom, but I was fine with the fan.nRooms were tidy and clean.nnNice and close to everything.

Good Food, Good Service. We really loved the friendliness of the staff. Salmon was cooked to perfection, as well as the fish n chips. Highly recommend whether you're in for a quick meal/drink or want to stay the night. Thanks Horse and Jockey Matamata!

There for a meal, the chicken meal was great, enjoyable. However the seafood chowder was very disappointing. More like a soup, you had to go looking for anything that resemble seafood. Can't recomend that dish.

Stopped in today after a 300km ride . Wet leathers and cold looking for a cold beer and hot meal. The beer was the only thing that was ok about it. We sat outside as we were wet but the music out the front was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. We then wanted to buy some hot grub to warm our bones but we're told they were under staffed and kitchen was closed, we then went out the back to the garden bar as it thinned out a bit and right next to us were people eating hot food 5 mins after being declined. I've been to this establishment many times in the past and never had a problem until today. Very poor service on their part today
